i have always been a big fan of myst from way back and i recently saw this old discount copy of realMYST at a local store so i picked it up. However i cant seem to get it to work on my laptop at all o_O. the specs arent entirely horrible, i can run stuff like gta san andreas at decent specs.
anyway.. i did my fair share of scowering the internet and i found this is an infamous try to open the game and get black screen kicked back to windows glitch, here is what i tried so far.

installed it and applied patch 1.11

installed it and didnt apply patch

went to properties and tried to run it in compatibility mode of win 95, 98, 2000, xp, vista, nt.. etc..

right clicked and tried to run as administrator.

installed latest video drivers.

installed indeo codec 5.11

am using quicktime 7.41 (my brother happens to own an ipod so i already had that from itunes)

and i`m still stumped, any help is apretiated. here are my specs direct from dxdiag

Welcome to the Forums!

Suggestions:

1. Take a look at
-- December 2007 Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update.
-- An update is available that improves the compatibility and reliability of Windows Vista

Download and install these updates.

2. Run the Program Compatibility Wizard. For details, see How to start the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows Vista.

3. Try what's called out in:
-- How to troubleshoot application compatibility issues in Windows Vista
-- How to troubleshoot issues that may prevent a program from being installed correctly on a Windows Vista-based computer
-- Advanced methods to troubleshoot a program that does not run as expected after it is installed on Windows Vista

As a further comment, whether you play any of the Myst-series games or not, you should consider downloading and installing these Four Must-Have Vista Updates. The fourth update mentioned, KB936710, applies only to SLI and CrossFire systems (two NVIDIA or AMD/ATI graphics cards).
