Ok, I can load all kinds of old crappy games on vista without a problem. Why is it that the brilliant masterminds behind myst can't create a patch to make it run? Anybody make this run yet?

Maybe part of the problem is that Myst isn't an "old crappy game"...?

The Myst series should run properly under Vista, sometimes with a little tweaking required. Suggestions:

1. Some programs run in Vista only if you run them with full Administrator privileges and with the Run as administrator option enabled. See How to use User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista.

2. Install the latest Vista drivers for your video and sound chipsets. If you haven't checked for new drivers in the past week, do so now.

3. Take a look at July 2007 Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update. (If you've been using Windows Update regularly, this update should already have been installed.)

4. If you have problems with MME, try running the Program Compatibility Wizard. For details, see How to start the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows Vista. Or, if you don't want to run the Wizard, you can just try Compatibility Mode, which is invoked as with Win XP.

5. You may need to try what's called out in:
-- How to troubleshoot application compatibility issues in Windows Vista
-- How to troubleshoot issues that may prevent a program from being installed correctly on a Windows Vista-based computer
-- Advanced methods to troubleshoot a program that does not run as expected after it is installed on Windows Vista

As a further comment, whether you play any of the Myst-series games or not, you should consider downloading and installing these Four Must-Have Vista Updates. The fourth update mentioned, KB936710, applies only to SLI and CrossFire systems (two NVIDIA or AMD/ATI graphics cards).
