I am trying to run Myst Masterpiece on my Windows XP. I have already installed Exile, which works fairly well. After Exile, I installed Myst, and it seems fine, except when video clips try to play - the intro video and the videos of the brothers trapped in their books. The game runs smoothly if I skip the intro video, but if another one tries to play, the game shuts down with an error report saying that it simply encountered a problem and needed to stop.

I have three options available in the dialog box notifying the error: Debug, Send Error Report, and Don't Send. I clicked Debug, and then even the error report box froze, and I had to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get it to stop period. I clicked Send Error Report, and that doesn't work (never does for any other reports we send, either).

I uninstalled and then re-installed Myst Masterpiece again, but still it encounters the same problems. Help?

Welcome to the Forums!

As a first pass, try running MME in Windows Compatibility Mode. See How to use the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows XP for details. Try at least Windows 95 and Windows 98/Windows Me modes. For each of these two modes, select in sequence:
-- a. 'Run in 256 colors', and play MME.
-- b. 'Run in 256 colors', 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution', and play MME.
-- c. 'Run in 256 colors', 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution', and 'Disable visual themes' and play MME.

Stop when you find a combination that works properly.
