ok, i have played all of the Myst games in the series and am ashamed to say that i may not have solved the original one. This is a question for those who have finished the game. I just want to make sure, you can't ever get he game to say CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'VE WON!, or something right? It ends with no message and you are free to wander about all the ages, right? Because i was looking through some hints and it said somewhere that i can do smething in Atrus' office or sometihng. Pick up a book....I don't remember. So can anyone just confirm that i have done all that can be done?
If you brought the correct book page to Atrus, he talked with you and then told you that you could wander around Myst Island at your leisure. And that was pretty much it.

Unless you're playing realMyst, in which case there's one more little bonus Age you can get to. Nothing too extensive, just a little extra treat at the end.

thanks guys. Oh yeah, and by the way, i don't actually own Myst or REALMyst but i am plannig on buying it. Which do you think i should buy? Do all of them come in REALMyst now? Are they the same except for that bonus age? Is the bonus age worth it? sorry for so many questions at once
The differences between Myst and Real Myst are relatively minor, the game is the same either way. Myst have the same interface as Riven (I think that's what they call "pre-rendered?") and real myst has a 3D interface. People have their own preferences about this -- one of the plusses about the 3D interface is that you can walk everywhere (of course, not everyone would consider that a plus). Real Myst also has day/night changes and animated weather, both of which are beautiful.
But one important thing to consider is that some versions of Myst won't play on newer operating systems. That's actually how I came to discover real Myst in the first place. And there's the bonus age -- like I said before, it isn't extensive, but you may as well get as much Myst as you can

PX is correct about the differences between Myst and RealMyst. And that brings up another thing - if you want to play the original Myst game using a modern version of QuickTime, you should get Myst Masterpiece Edition, or "MME," which is the same technology as the original Myst, but updated. Myst was released in 1993 and requires QuickTime v 2.5 or 3.0, whereas MME was a re-release dated 2000, and will work on the latest version of QT. There are a few other changes like improved graphics resolution, the addition of a "help" area on screen, etc. MME avoids the issue of having to replace QT on a recent computer with the earlier version supplied on the 1993 disc.
