I just got involved in the Myst series a few months ago when I recieved Riven as a gift from someone who couldn't get anywhere in it. I thought I'd be struggling with it too, but much to my surprise I ended up loving the game and beat it in a few months (without the strategy guide or outside help thank you). After defeating Riven a friend suggested I play Myst, so I dug up my old copy of it from where it had been collecting dust in the garage and tried it out. Now, I was given Myst for my 5th birthday and never played it then, so keep in mind this is the original '93 realease, not the new DVD version. I'm running Windows 2000, and when I tried to play Myst my system told me it won't work on 2000. So I booted up my computer in windows 98 and tryed again. This time, instead of telling me it won't work I just cut to the chase and didn't work. I click the autorun icon that says "run" and the little hourglass cursor appears for a few seconds, then nothing happens. Tried turning off hardware acceleration, same thing still happens. Can anyone help me out?

The original version of Myst will not run using QuickTime version 4.0 or higher.
Either you must remove the version of QuickTime on your computer and install the earlier version supplied on the Myst CD, or you must go out and buy Myst Masterpiece Edition, which among other changes, updates the program's capability to run using the latest versions of QT.

Good call. I uninstalled all previous versions of Quicktime then re-intalled Myst and the version of QT that came with it, and it works! Thanks for the help; both of you.
