So tell me, what is realMyst like? How is it different from the regular Myst, except for the new age, Rime?
I heard it was like, fully rendered 3D. What does that mean? Is it like Uru where you walk around and see yourself, or maybe it's like playing Uru walking around in first-person mode?
In addition to being a nice addition to all the Msyt games,,,,Real Myst is a nice introduction to using Crystals. As Crystals are used in the additional age of Rime, added to the game. Crystals which come into play in Myst IV Revelation. The movement is much improved and some nice enhancements to the graphics is very eye appealing.
Bought myst on playstaion...but kids scratched it to death.. so later bought the trilogy myst, riven, exile (on PC)..completed myst..again..but got a bit lost in Riven...have not tried exile...yet. So is RealMyst an expansion or something completely different???
(I like to complete these games... but I dont cheat...so it takes me ages...!!....and I have sooo many other games 'on the go' !!!! )
RealMyst is basically the same as the original Myst except it is in 3D with full movement, not point and click. It also has weather changes, night, day, rain, etc. Also there is a new age added, Rime. Your movement is not restricted to point and click.
I just finished realMyst, and I thought it was awesome!
I am actually new to the entire Myst series. I downloaded a demo of Uru a few weeks ago, and that was my first experience with the Myst legacy! After finishing Uru, I got the expansion packs, and then the Myst 10th Anniversary edition (kind of backwards), but I kept reading about this 'realMyst' 3D. I finally found the demo, and it just enthralled me! In fact, I played the original Myst after the 3D demo, and it just made it that much more intriguing to play the full 3D version. I finally found the Mac and PC versions of realMyst, and they work on current systems with only minor tweaking (some systems have issues though, try the realMyst demo first).
What amazed me was the rather negative reviews that realMyst got on some of the gaming sites, and by Myst fans themselves. Some of the reviews and comments were from several years ago, so maybe it was because the hardware they used was not very capable. I have a fast cpu and graphics card so my first experience was very positive.
It seems like a tremendous amount of detail went into the game and I don’t think it is appreciated enough. The scene in the sunken part of the ship where you are looking out into the ocean, and you see fish, turtles, etc. swimming around (very lifelike) is just breathtaking...
If you never have played the game, or you played it many years ago, try it with a fast computer and graphics card. You may be pleasantly surprised!
