Welcome to the Forums!

Sounds like you're having problems installing and/or running Myst Masterpiece Edition (MME) on Vista. There aren't any Vista-related patches for MME, and the program should run properly on Vista. However, sometimes a little tweaking is required.

Suggestions:

1. Some programs run on Vista only if you run them with full Administrator privileges and with the Run as administrator option enabled. See How to use User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista.

2. Install the latest Vista drivers for your video and sound chipsets. If you haven't checked for new drivers in the past week, do so now.

3. Take a look at July 2007 Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update. (If you've been using Windows Update regularly, this update should already have been installed.)

4. If you have problems running MME, try the Program Compatibility Wizard. For details, see How to start the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows Vista.

5. You may need to try what's called out in:
-- How to troubleshoot application compatibility issues in Windows Vista
-- How to troubleshoot issues that may prevent a program from being installed correctly on a Windows Vista-based computer
-- Advanced methods to troubleshoot a program that does not run as expected after it is installed on Windows Vista

As a further comment, whether you play any of the Myst-series games or not, you should consider downloading and installing these Four Must-Have Vista Updates. The fourth update mentioned, KB936710, applies only to SLI and CrossFire systems (two NVIDIA or AMD/ATI graphics cards).

I found this fix while doing my own research for my wife http://comm.thetrek.net/viewtopic.php?p=11&sid=bced818c...ee9253fe3696223f85c7

it says to install quick 6.5.2 and it seems to be running fine for me Win98 compatability mode.

Maybe a useless comment, but QuickTime seems to be the whipping boy for a lot of problems, with the solution being to downgrade it to an earlier version. In my case, running QuickTime v 7.3.1 under Mac OS 10.4.11 on a PowerMac dual-CPU G5, Myst Masterpiece, Riven, Myst III: Exile, Myst IV: Revelation, and Myst V: End of Ages all run perfectly. The only caveat is that for MME the display has to be set to 640 x 480, or the window is too small. And for Myst III: Exile, CPU #2 has to be turned off for consistent, unbroken audio.

So what I am writing here is that unless QuickTime's latest version is a problem in general for Wintel computers, it should be unnecessary to downgrade it.
