Hi Heimdall.

I have met theventure in the Paradise game forums and he was recently "converted" to Myst games.

He is a brillant young man and I beleive that theventure is ready to help with hints and spoilers anyone who needs help. We call him "The Romanian Lion" and we beleive he is one of the fastest student we have ever seen.

We even did consider to call him "the sponge" Veryhappy

As an indicaror, he recently told us that Riven was quite an easy game and that he does not use/or see the need to use walthroughs when playing his games.

Welcome to the forums!

Can you tell us how far you have come? For example:
- Have you found the clue in the tower behind the library?
- Have you turned on the power?

This puzzle requires you to be able to distinguish the pitch of sounds (how high/low they are).

Go to the organ keyboard in the space ship.
Press the key that is numbered 1 in the picture in the library book.
Memorize the pitch.
Go to the device with the sliders on the other side of the space ship.
Drag the leftmost slider up until the tone you hear matches the one you memorized.
You can go back and forth between the organ and the device if you don't succeed the first time. There is no time limit, you can take as long as you like.
Repeat this for the key numbered 2, using the second slider from the left.
Continue until you have set all five sliders.
Then pull down the big lever on the right. If you you've set the sliders correctly, you'll see a book in the viewer.

There's an imager in the room at the end of the stairs, and a control panel on the wall near the stairs. Experiment with the control panel, and remember the note from Atrus that you probably found on the ground near the planetarium.

When you enter through the door on the dock (the one that slides up), you pass through a dark corridor, then go down some stairs to an octangular (if I remember correctly) room with an imager. If you turn around when you have reached this room, you'll see a control panel to the left of the stairs you came down.

I have some questions. I've been able to raise the ship from the water, get the pages from the next age after that, go to the Selenitic Age, get the pages from there and return with them, and I've also been to the Mechanical Age, been able to get the pages from there and return. I should also add, I've know all about how to use the tree elevator, how to enter it, how to lower and exit it, and generally I can get a great view of the clock tower. At this point, however, I'm a little confused about what the next step could be. Could you provide a hint? Please don't reveal too much; I would like to try to figure out most of it on my own. Angel

Thanks!

I had thought of that before! ...No, I haven't yet, but I think I know how. Big Grin

...Y'know, it occurred to me after logging off the last time, I should've started out by saying "Thank you!" Of course, when I re-examined how I'd been operating the elevator, it became immediately apparent how to proceed to the next stage....

At this point, I still have one last detail to figure out, and I should be able to finish the game. However, I still want to figure it out on my own, so that's really not my present quandary.

However, I also started early on "Riven" and "Exile (Myst III)" recently, and in "Riven", I'm a little stumped about what I'm doing on the walkway above the pond. There's a door that won't open, and more frustratingly, there's also a stairway that won't unfold, and it leads to that wooonderful Golden City (sigh).

...Any short hints? Should I keep trying to monkey with the three-way valve in the middle of the pond, the switch on the walkway, or the switch at the bottom of the staircase to the golden city? Could there be something else I'm overlooking as well (aside from that puzzle, in the middle of that spinning orb, with the nifty Sliding Parts, that I have no idea how to solve)?

...I'm just so completely confusing, I know.... Big Grin

Regarding Riven, it's a little hard for me to understand what you are doing. There are five islands: 1) Temple Island, which is where you began the game, containing the pentagonal rotating room, the large gold dome, and Gehn's holographic machine and "temple," 2) Villagers' Island, 3) Bookbinding Island, 4) Survey (or "Map") Island, and 5) Prison Island. In general, you want to explore Temple Island thoroughly and open as many doors as you can, pull/turn as many levers as you can find, etc. Try and visualize how the rotating room looks from the top, and be sure and look for a "back door."

On Bookbinding Island, you have to get clever with the big boiler's controls. But you already did that, I think. The "Golden City" I think is the large gold dome back on Temple Island, yes? That long walkway leads to it from Bookbinding Island. While on Bookbinding Island, be sure to open and close doors and investigate. The three-way lever directs power in whatever direction it is pointed, so when you need something to operate, you need to point the lever that way.
