Guys,

I have managed to get hold of a copy of Realmyst and am very excited to play it. However, I have got some issues. Firstly, the game wouldn't load at all, and would just come up with an error message and go back to the desktop. I think I managed to fix this by installing the latest DirectX. Now however, the game loads, and you are standing at the dock. When I turn left to look at the library door, it crashes every single time saying realmyst.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, and goes back to desktop. I have tried numerous compatability setting with no joy.

I have a Sony Vaio S5XP running Windows XP Pro SP2 with an Nvidia Geforce Go 6400 video card.

If someone can help I'd be most grateful.....

Thanks,

Welcome to the Forums!

Suggestions:

1. Install the latest video driver from Sony for your Vaio. If that doesn't help, see Myst Masterpiece Edition and realMyst: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP, under Installing NVIDIA Drivers.

2. Install the latest sound driver from Sony for your Vaio.

3. Install the realMyst version 1.11 patch, available here or here from Ubisoft.

4. Try running realMyst in Windows compatibility mode. See How to use the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows XP for details. Try at least Windows 95 and Windows 98/Windows Me modes. For each of these two modes, select in sequence:
-- a. 'Run in 256 colors', and play realMyst.
-- b. 'Run in 256 colors', 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution', and play realMyst.
-- c. 'Run in 256 colors', 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution', and 'Disable visual themes' and play realMyst.

Stop when you find a combination that works.

Thanks for that. Managed to get it working. Needed to rebuild machine anyway, so did that and it worked fine....

However, I am now very near the end (I think) where you need to get the final red or blue page from behind the fireplace. I take either red or blue, go to the relevent book and the game crashes back to desktop. This is the only time this has happended throughout the game.

Any ideas anyone......??????
