Hey! I finished Myst Masterpiece! Never could've done it without help from this forum. Now I'm totally hooked, and have purchased some others, but would really like to know what Myst URU is. How do these games differ from Myst, Riven, Exile and End of Ages?
Thanks! |

My opinions and others will probably differ in their opinions.
Myst, Riven, and Exile all seem to have reasonable puzzles. I handled them with almost no help exept in Exile. Uru was originally intended to be a site managed game but that failed and we now have a game on CD/DVD? plus some added activities in two additions. Then there was Revelation and now End of Ages. I have been half way done with Uru and will probably never go all the way there. Uru has some very good graphics and some nice puzzles but it also has some very impossible puzzles and time relations to work into. It is a strange game. I have had helps and walkthroughs but still can't finish. I think this is where it will stay. Revelation is another interesting game but it also has some tough puzzles to work. I don't consider myself to be done with Revelation yet. I have used a lot of help information but so far have gotten myself stuck in a certain location. Right now I don't have a PC set up to finish the game but I intend to try again soon. End of Ages I haven't bought yet but will soon. I want to try it just to say I did. Have heard and read of some very difficult puzzles. I think I will try my best but I don't appreciate problems that require a lot of helps and exchanges on the forums to make things work. All of the games had good graphics, I just wish they all had reasonable puzzles. |

EoA's puzzles are actually largely easier than those in Riven and especially Revelation, they just function on a slightly different level... there are fewer machines to fiddle with and more A to B puzzles thanks to the Slate. A few of them are real puzzlers, but none are anywhere near as brutal as the ones in Revelation
Uru is, as Bob mentioned, a bit of an oddity in the series, since it's set largely outside of the timeline of the other games (and so is EoA, largely so it can wrap up both at once), features a 3rd-person view where you're controlling an avatar rather than the first-person cameras of the other games, and was originally intended to be a massively multiplayer environment. Unfortunately, those plans fell through, so what we're left with is a lot of multiplayer-designed content having to be reconditioned for a single-player game. The results are often less than satisfying, especially in the puzzle department (and MOST especially in places like Ahnonay, but I'll stop there All that said, the scenery is wonderful, and being able to wander around in it in realtime is great, but the puzzles are perhaps some of the weaker ones in terms of good design, so you may find yourself frustrated with them quickly, even with a walkthrough. Still, I imagine it's worth the money at $20. Also, Bob, for the record, Uru is not available on DVD ---------- Guild of Archivists, D'niPedia Writers Ring (DPWR.NET) Uru and Myst Forum Moderator / Community Assistant Do not PM me for tech support or hint requests for the Myst series |

Now that I'm thouroughly confused...........
I've ordered the 10th Anneversary edition which includes Rivin and Exile; and Revelation, so I think I'll wait on the others until I get through these. Thanks for your input. I'm sure I'll be back soon for your forum help. Darlene |
