1st off: Sorry, I didn't know anywhere to post this. If you know better, could you direct me to a better place?

Ok, so I was thinking of buying real myst (I guess to go back and play it again, the only version I have right now is the original PC version), and decided to download the demo first. Only, when I tried to launch it, it crashed (I am on Mac OS X 10.4, and I downloaded it from apple's site, twice, same thing both times). Does anyone know if the complete realMYST works on 10.4?

Thanks

PS Here is the stack at the time of the crash:
EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x6e474c26

Thread 0 Crashed:
0 CFHash + 24
1 __CFDictionaryFindBuckets1b + 140
2 CFDictionaryGetValue + 212
3 _CFStandardApplicationPreferences + 132
4 CFPreferencesCopyAppValue + 28
5 hsLoadPreferences__Fv + 60
6 hsConfigure__Fv + 84
7 main + 168

(So it seems to be something with prefs loading...)

I'm having the same problem, so I wrote to macplay. They replied: "You may have to use the old emulators." does anyone know what that means?

I get this crash also, both with the realMYST Demo and with the full game. Interestingly, on another Mac, it works fine. Both have Mac OS X 10.4.2. I wonder if the difference is that I upgraded the first Mac from Panther (the Archive and Install option) and I installed Tiger directly on the second (the Erase option).

Perhaps we can hope that the problem will be fixed in 10.4.3.

I couldn't run it on my mac w/ tiger either - but my computer didn't crash, it just didn't know which application with which to run it.

I emailed MacPlay back and forth on this issue. Its really frustrating. I have a 2x2.5 G5 and my problem is that the patch (which is an old patch and came waaaay before Tiger) refuses to find and patch the game. The patch installer always quits with an error that it cannot find the game. Total waste of money and MacPlay has been useless.

Yes, the patch came out a couple of years before Tiger. What it actually fixes is a dual processor bug according to the read-me file.

I, too, had trouble running the patch installer. It kept saying that I didn't need it, probably because I used it on my single-processor Mac when the patch first came out.

What I eventually did was trash the realMYST application file and get a fresh copy from the game disc. Then, I was able to run the patch installer successfully. Even better, the game now works on my dual-processor Mac.

Thanks, iTroll, for inspiring me to retry the patch! It's great to have realMYST running again.
