the game doesn't start. all that pops up is a black screen. thats it

i'm trying to start the game after installing it. all that pops up is a blck screen.

Try running MME in Win 98/Me Compatibility Mode. You may also need to try the Win 95 and Win 2000 compatibility modes, and in each mode try various combinations of options - 256 colors, 640x480 screen resolution, disable visual themes. See How to use the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows XP and How to Use Windows Application Compatibility Mode for details.
