Has anyone read the Myst books? I'm talking about Myst: the book of Atrus &
Myst: the book of Ti'Ana
there is one more, but I'm not sure what the title is, maybe the book of Catherine? anyway, just wanted to talk about it with someone because I just finished the book of Atrus (which is great by the way).

3rd book is "Myst: The Book of D'ni."

ISBN for the hardback is 0-7868-6161-4, published in 1997 by Hyperion.

sdurrie,

Yes I've read all three, but that was back in 1996 - 1997. I remember I liked all of them, but I'd have to re-read them to tell you how well and why.

I recently bought the Myst Reader -- all three books in one -- and am currently reading the Book of Ti'ana. After, I'll read the books of Atrus and D'ni.

Also, according to Wikipedia there are two more books being planned... The first of them is called "The Book of Marrim" and the other is yet to be named. I wonder if this information is credible.

Here it is

Oh cool! I didn't know there were more books in the works. I have also read all three and really enjoyed them. They mainly explain a lot of the history of the D'ni and Atrus's family. It also adds, I think, to the games because you understand the family dynamics and personalities and can get more emotionally involved. If I remember correctly, I believe the book of Atrus is about his life and his relationship with his father. The book of Ti'ana is about Anna, his grandmother who raised him. And the book of D'ni is about what happened to its people and their history.

Each book is just as detailed as the games, complete with sketches and notes. It also delves much deeper into what an Age actually is and how the Art actually works. It makes a lot more sense in the later games for example, when Atrus goes to talk to a guildmaster. It is not necessary to play the game, but it adds much more to it if you already have a picture and concept to attach to that word. In Myst when you read the ages you understand just what went into their creation and you can relate to Catherine, Atrus, and their relationship on a much deeper level than just computer characters.

Real myst has better graphics, animations and sounds. It is made to appear more real. I had forgotten how much of a difference there was until I recently started a myst game. Also, I think there is something extra on it, but I honestly don't remember. Was a while ago and once you play all of these games, the story kind of flows together.
