hey everyone...just got a brand new iMac for xmas, and decided to get the 10th anniversary myst set. installation was a bugger, still can't get exile running, but my biggest problem is the quality of the images. They're awful, very grainy, blocky, not at all the quality of image i remember playing the original years ago. any suggestions on getting the quality back?

Something I feel should be pointed out is that Exile is not OS X native in its standard installation, and the patch to make it such seems to dislike the latest version of the app that ships on the Anniversary DVDs, so you'll need to make sure to run Exile in Classic.

As far as Myst and Riven are concerned, they only run at 640x480 resolution, which on an LCD screen may appear somewhat fuzzy or grainy because the resolution is not optimal on the display. Riven's images are also dithered (and have never been re-optimized to be 24-bit images), so they will appear to have odd patterns in the colors of certain areas, especially the sky. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much that can be done to rectify the situation... they are really old games at this point, and as I've often noted to be the case - especially with Myst - they haven't aged as well as our memories of them.
