just bought the 10th anniversary edition, installed it.
When I execute it, get an that standard (Myst encounted a problem and will have to close error, Send or Don't send error report)
Clicked 640x480 and 256 color in compatibility, didn't help. Set it to Windows 95, and it loads but I get a dark blank screen with a hand mouse pointer, some background sound and nothing else.
Running Winxp Sp2.

Any ideas??

You may have a hardware and/or driver problem. If you'll post a DxDiag report in this topic, we can take a look at your system and maybe spot something. The report will be long, but post *all* of it!

To post a DxDiag report:
1. Click on Start > Run.
2. Type dxdiag in the box.
3. Click OK.
4. Let the blue bar in the lower left corner of the Dxdiag window finish crawling and disappear.
5. Run all of the tests you can on the Display, Sound and Music tabs. Do not neglect to do this step!
-- a. On the Display tab, click on the Test DirectDraw and Test Direct3D boxes, and follow the resulting instructions.
-- b. On all of the Sound tabs, click on the Test DirectSound box, and follow the resulting instructions.
-- c. On the Music tab, click on Test DirectMusic box, and follow the resulting instructions.
6. Click on the Save All Information button.
7. Close the DxDiag utility.
8. Now you have a DxDiag.txt file on your Desktop, or in the location where you have saved it.
Copy *ALL* of the contents of this file to the Windows Clipboard.
-- a. Double-click on the file to open it.
-- b. Right-click anywhere in the text, then click on Select All in the resulting menu.
-- c. Right-click on the highlighted text, then click on Copy in the resulting menu.
9. Paste the contents of the file from the Clipboard into a new post in this topic.
-- a. Click on the yellow Reply arrow in the lower right corner of the screen.
-- b. With the mouse cursor at the upper left corner of the Quick Reply to: box, type in any details that might help diagnose the problem.
-- c. Position the mouse cursor at the left margin and two lines down from the details, then right-click.
-- d. Click on Paste in the resulting menu.
-- e. Click on Post Now.

If the manufacturer and exact model number of your PC aren't shown under 'System Information' (System Manufacturer and System Model) at the top of the report, also include that information in your post. Suggestions, to do in the order shown:

Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges and close all open applications before doing any of the following. Do not use a "download accelerator" or "download helper" utility when downloading any drivers or DirectX.

1. Some background applications and processes can interfere with Myst. Before playing Myst, close all unnecessary applications and processes running in the background, including anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware, and any other system protection software. Use Windows Task Manager to close everything except for Explorer.exe, Ctfmon.exe, and whatever your hardware needs:
----- 1. Close your Internet connection.
----- 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del once, and then click on the Applications tab.
----- 3. Click on the desired application to highlight it.
----- 4. Click on End Task.
----- 5. Repeat this procedure until all unnecessary applications are closed.
----- 6. Click on the Processes tab.
----- 7. Click on the desired process to highlight it.
----- 8. Click on End Process.
----- 9. Repeat this procedure until all unnecessary background processes are closed. If you aren't sure which processes can be safely closed, check out the AnswersThatWork Task List Programs index. The most common tasks are described, and which ones are essential and which can be safely closed are noted.

DO NOT leave your Internet connection active after doing the above, especially if you have only a software firewall. An active connection with no firewall is an open invitation to hackers, who are not your friends!

-- f. Without rebooting, play Myst.

2. Carry out an overall Windows and hard disk tune-up before playing Myst:

Update your anti-virus, spyware, and adware databases, then do complete, in-depth scans of your hard disks. That’s the 'start it and let it crank' type of scan, not the bootup quickie!

Check all of your hard disks and partitions for errors. Refer to How to Perform Disk Error Checking in Windows XP. Close all running programs before starting the error check, and tell Windows to automatically fix file system errors. Another option is Symantec's Norton SystemWorks - Norton Utilities Disk Doctor.

Clear your Internet Explorer caches.
-- a. Close all open applications.
-- b. Open a single Internet Explorer session.
-- c. Click on Tools > Internet Options.
-- d. Click on Delete Cookies > OK.
-- e. Click on Delete Files (check the 'Delete all offline content' box) > OK.
-- f. Click on Clear History > Yes.
-- g. Click on OK to exit.

Use Windows (not Internet) Explorer to search all hard disks for \temp and \temporary folders, and delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use. If you can delete a file in a temp folder, it's not in use - if it's in use, Windows won't let you delete it.
-- a. Close all open applications, and open a Windows Explorer session.
----- 1. Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.
-- b. Click on Search (top toolbar) > All files and folders.
----- 1. Click on More advanced options.
----- 2. Click on the Search subfolders box to put a check it. The Search system folders and Search hidden files and folders boxes should also be checked.
-- c. Type temp in the All or part of the file name: box.
-- d. Click on Search to start the search.
-- e. Click on the In Folder column heading bar, which sorts the entries folders-first.
-- f. Double-click on a temp folder to open it, in the Name column for:
----- C:\
----- C:\Windows (just \Windows, not subfolders like \Windows\System32)
----- C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings
----- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
----- C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings
----- C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Local Settings
----- C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\My Documents
----- C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings
----- C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings
-- g. Delete files in the temp folder that aren't currently in use. Also delete files in subfolders contained in temp folders.
----- 1. After deleting a folder/subfolder's files, click on the white Back arrow (in the green circle, top taskbar) to go back to the search results. It may take a few seconds for the results list to refresh.
----- 2. Open another temp folder and delete its files.
----- 3. repeat until all of the above temp folders have been emptied.
-- h. Close Windows Explorer back to the Desktop.

Empty the Recycle Bin.
-- a. From the Desktop, right-click on the Recycle Bin.
-- b. Click on Open to view the Bin's contents.
-- c. Click on any file that was deleted by mistake.
-- d. Click on File > Restore.
-- e. Repeat as necessary.
-- f. Click on File > Close.
-- g. Right-click on the Recycle Bin.
-- h. Click on Empty Recycle Bin.
-- i. Click on Yes to confirm file deletion.

Defragment your hard disk(s). To speed up the process, reboot, close all open applications, and immediately begin defragging. Refer to How To Analyze and Defragment a Disk in Windows XP and How to Defragment Your Disk Drive Volumes in Windows XP for details. Executive Software's Diskeeper is another option.

Check your Registry for errors. Win XP doesn't have a built-in Registry diagnosis and repair utility, so here are some other options. Run whichever utility you use until no more repairable errors are discovered, and reboot when finished.

-- Rose City Software's Registry First Aid.
-- VCOM's Fix-It Utilities SystemRegistry-RegistryFixer utility.
-- Lexun Freeware's Registry cleaner RegScrubXP 3.25.

With all of the above completed, reboot and log into Windows with full Administrator privileges. Close all open applications, and play Myst.

3. Re-download NVIDIA’s ForceWare 163.71 video driver and re-install exactly as detailed under Installing NVIDIA Drivers in Myst Masterpiece Edition and realMyst: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP. Play Myst.

4. Install the latest driver from Creative for your Audigy 2 ZS, version 02.09.0016, available here. Play Myst.
