I have gone to the wood cabin and done all to get the tree to start rising but it isn't. The furnace is at full temp. Is there a patch I need for Real Myst?

There is a patch for RealMyst - see here - but your problem is not mentioned in the list of fixes.

Are you sure that the wheel cannot be turned any further? Have you tried turning the furnace off, then on again?

If that doesn't work, hopefully someone else will have a suggestion.

Hi Vogelaar, Thanks for the information and I am installing the patch. I will try and play with the wheel more. I have played the first Myst and the 10 Anniversary Edition issue with no problem at this point. That is why I was surprised by the problem. Thanks again.

edit: I tried running the patch and it reports it can't run, "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

edit edit: I went back in with great trepidation. Oh the suspense! I started turning the big wheel counterclockwise shutting down the funace. I heard the tree dropping! So, it just didn't make the noise going up? I missed the entrance and had to send the tree back up and then shut down the furnace to be able to get in the entrance. Success!!!!

It has been a long time for me. Did you touch the wheel on both sides of the center. One side pulls the wheel to the right and the other side pulls the wheel to the left.

When the furnace is at full temp the tree will jump every so often. As the temp goes down it will jump less frequently.

I don't remember ever having a problem with the tree.

Have you already got the tree all the way to the top? Go back and look well up and see if you see the door. Or cool the furnace down and see if the tree starts to let itself down.

Bob didn't miss your second edit ("edit edit:") , because it wasn't there when he posted!

You posted your edit edit: at 16:53, Bob posted at 16:54. It can take something like 10-30 minutes for an edit to show up in a thread on these Forums.

Thanks for the information on the posting and how long it takes to show up sometimes. I will keep it in mind.

Is there a way to run the patch and point it to an installation on a partition other than C: ? Can I enter the patch in a command line statement in the run command? I think that is why it is not completing.

You could try having realMYST1.1.1patch.exe resident in the primary folder in which you have realMyst installed, and running it from there.

Did any error message tell you what "a file of the same name" is? Or, is there an install log file (like install.txt, install.log, log.txt, etc.) somewhere in the realMyst folders that might contain pertinent information?

I did a search on install.* and found nothing. In the progress screen of the update the file it is processing is readme.txt . I copied the patch to the root folder for realmyst and tried running from there as suggested but that wouldn't work either. I am just going to install to C: and be done with it. I am surprised that it has been running at all as I didn't have directX installed which I just saw in the readme.txt as needed. I am on a new system I just put together and realmyst is the first game I have tried so far. I have made it through Channelwood, Mechanical and am currently in Selentic (sp?) in the spaceship battling with the keyboard/sliders and tones which is driving me crazy. I got it once and just after I left the spaceship the game crashed .
