Same here--simulator works normally.

Speculation here... Since the tower simulator program code is probably written the same as the tower rotation code, and one works but not the other, my wild guess is that this is an OS problem, not a program code problem. Perhaps the interaction between the graphics (gear rotation) in the tower, the audio, and the lever operation is enough to cause the OS to jump to later in the code, i.e. the south position.

Further suggestions:
1. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and run MME using Compatibility Mode. See Description of the Application Compatibility Tool, How to use the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows XP, and How to Use Windows Application Compatibility Mode for details. (Do NOT boot up with the MME disc in the drive.) Select Win 98/Me mode, then in sequence: -- a. 'Run in 256 colors', and start MME. -- b. 'Run in 256 colors', 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution', and start MME. -- c. 'Run in 256 colors', 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution', and 'Disable visual themes' and start MME. If Win 98/Me mode doesn’t help, try the Windows 95 and Windows 2000 modes with the above options. 2. Install the latest end-user runtime release of DirectX 9.0c. -- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- b. As detailed in step 5 of my post of Wed June 27 2007 15:10 Wed June 27 2007 15:10, above: ----- 1. Clear your Internet Explorer caches. ----- 2. Use Windows (not Internet) Explorer to search all hard disks for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders, and delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use. ----- 3. Empty the Recycle Bin. -- c. Install the latest end-user runtime release of DirectX 9.0c, available here. ----- 1. Reboot when installation is complete. ----- 2. Do NOT boot up with the MME disc in the drive. -- d. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. Also turn off any screen savers and anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up software running in the background. Then play MME. 3. Before starting MME, close all unnecessary applications and processes running in the background, including screen savers and anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up software. Use Windows Task Manager to close everything except for Explorer.exe, Ctfmon.exe, and whatever your hardware needs: -- a. Close your Internet connection. DO NOT leave your Internet connection open! -- b. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del once, and then click on Task Manager. -- c. Click on the Applications tab. -- d. Click on the desired application to highlight it. -- e. Click on End Task. -- f. Repeat this procedure until all unnecessary background applications are closed, including your anti-virus/adware/spyware/pop-up software and software firewall. -- g. Click on the Processes tab. -- h. Click on the desired process to highlight it. -- i. Click on End Process. -- j. Repeat this procedure until all unnecessary background processes are closed. If you aren't sure which processes can be safely closed, check out the AnswersThatWork Task List Programs index. The most common tasks are described, and which ones are essential and which can be safely closed are noted. -- k. WITHOUT rebooting, play MME. Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

I have tried using tweaking the compatibility settings. Everytime I end up with problems if I try to save (or load) a game -- it hangs, with no other option than killing from the task manager. Only with no compatibility options set, the game works flawlessly (the rotation issue expected, of course)

I had the same challenge with the rotation on the top of the elevator, too.
But, I did manage to get both pages. Do I need to go all the way around? I suspect there are likely some clues I may have missed. ---------- Just a guy. |

yadmit,
IIRC you need to point the tower opening north to get the last two symbols, in order to return to Myst. ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

I can't remember which directions I couldn't get the tower to rotate to. But, I made it back to Myst, so I must have gotten the correct ones!

Hello guys,
I've been reading what you guys have said and it doesn't work for me. I have the exact same problem and I bought my game yesterday. I can only go east and then back to the starting island. Sim. works fine in that one brothers' bedroom, and I timed it perfectly, but I cant go north. I guess the only way in fixing this problem is to re-install it and pray that it works. But if it keeps up i'll just get the cheat code online. |

I am having the exact same problem. I never reached the north island.
I got the remaining 2 pieces of the code by just trying the combinations for the two pieces. When is someone going to agree that this is a real problem and not some imaginary thing we are seeing? |

having the same issue here. I have tried everything. I have counted the time on the simulator. I have tried random rotations. I always rotate back and forth between east and south. always.

What just wonders me is, that somebody have claimed NOT to have this problem ... and I speculate if there are more that one Masterpiece version?
