As there has been some speculations on how to make a dedicated server i will make a little guide on how to use the program that is in the "tools" tab.

1. start "Dark Messiah Might and Magic Dedicated Server. Then wait untill it has finished loading.

2. You would want to change the name of server first. Type "hostname <name>" to change a name. To check if it worked type "hostname".

3. Now you would want to set the maximum amount of players allowed on the server. Type "maxplayers <number> to set this.

4. Now it is time to set the gametype. The gametypes are called by a number. Here is a list.

0 = deathmatch
1 = team deathmatch
2 = crusade
3 = capture the flag
4 = colosseum

Type "mp_gametype <number>" to set the gametype.

5. These are the most important settings before starting the server which we will do now. Type "map <mapname>" this command starts a server with a specified map "<mapname>".

6. If you want to check how the server is going type "status". This shows some info about the server.

7. If you would like to change or restart the map type "changelevel <mapname>".

Now there are many other commands and if any should think that an important one is missing, write a comment.

NOTE: if you can not see your server you are probably behind a firewall of some sort. How to set a firewall differs so i would not give any instructions on that now.

For now I wish you good luck with getting your server up running

Nice job. although it is recommended to use the stand alone version rather then the steam one for the following reasons:

1) Runs whit out steam, so even if steam crashes your server will run.

2) Performs slightly better

It's the Steam-less, stand alone version that Mana is referring to. HldsUpdateTool is what you use to download the necessary files. Srcds is the server executable.

Mana why can't we host your maps in the steam dedicated server.(steam-less doesn't work)
