Its something never brought up and I don't think it will ever be fixed unless we make it known. When you purchase the drone dmg upgrade on the CV it drops your range from the standard range to 70 meters. Its not a game feature its a bug.
You could compare it to a tanks close range dmg defense. After purchasing the upgrade for close combat weapon systems you'd no longer have a cannon. I'm not sure if this sounds fair to anyone but thats what this amounts to.
If this is a feature please allow us to take upgrades off are battalions. The CV is a interesting vehicle to SCREW around with. Please don't add quirky features that will just screw over new players that don't know not to get this upgrade. Thanks and trolls bump this please.
interestingly, my tanks dont usually use their close range laser system, or the cannons at close range. they just sort of mill around while the rifle men laugh.

I've noticed this to, will stop firing half the time when close to a target and the laser never comes on.
Yah against upgraded tanks you'll still take small dmg from doing the get inside cannon range strat. I've had transports restore shields while inside tank range though.
Thats not what I'm getting at. After upgrading your drones for the CV you drop from 200m or 175m can't remeber to 75 meters. In effect its only lasers firing after you get the upgrade. This is a bug that you can test and confim by either playing skirmish/WWIII/ToW.
Its a bug. Test this for yourself on JSF and Spetnaz notice both weapon systems fire.Euro drones only use lasers at 75m. Use sitrep and normal view to watch your drones. Also those laZors don't wtf pawn. Thats why I made the tank comparison of duel weapons system and losing its cannon.
Again, it's not a bug that the drones have a shorter range than JSF/Spetz, they just have a shorter range. If it's a balance issue you want changed, that's fine, but it's not a bug.
As for the tank lasers, I don't know what everyones problem is. They seem to work properly on mine.
Donos2 do you actually have a upgraded CV, a euro one at that? It may sound like a feature if your backseating this. Read the full forum post, test the CV out, play with it in ToW. Would you upgrade your rifleman ATT 2 if it only used 40mm launcher range?
dude, i know what you mean. i guess at the end its a preference issue, because its not a bug. basically the laser is a short range weapon, but more powerful. that laser wouldnt work at long ranges. why? i dunno, but thats the wayt it is, not a bug. the upgrade is DMG upgrade, and i bet that it improves the dmg, that it doesnt say the range is shorter thats another thing.
All basic beginning combat ranges are around the same distance. You have Rifleman, Engineers, Transports, Gunships, and drones attacking at 170 to 200m. Tanks are around 250m and arty at a whole mix of ranges. Since there is a large group 170m to 200m why would you want or think having drones with 70m range is a upgrade?
To test this out just send gunships to attack a hostile once. You'll notice he hovers around that max range firing his guns. Why would this be bad for drones protecting say a Arty piece with only 70m range. Pre-upgrade they used to be able to attack back at 175m. Now go banzai and attack say some transports with your drones. You run across the field he begins firing at your drones at 175m, you need to cover 100M before you can begin to even fire back. This is a bug no upgrade should take away combat assets or remove its main weapon system.
its not a bug. and its realistic. do you know the first thing about laser tech? range is not one of its strengths at this time. the further it goes the more energy that disipitates untill nothing is left. you should have tested the upgrade out in single player first. when i played as EFEC i didnt upgrade the drones for this reason and i was content with their damage. stop bitching for another advantage, range is a JSF thing, NOT an EFEC thing.
I don't care about the range reduction, although I am probably gonna have to find another way to cover my artys now... how about engineers!
You wanna complain about the EFEC CV. How about this... JSF CV gets BHQ Stealth Detection while the SGB and EFEC only get individual Stealth detection.
Range is a JSF thing, Power is Spetznaz, Countermeasures is EFEC. Pure and simple.
i never had the short range bug me the fact there drones are the fastest means they could get in there and use the short ranger lazers just as easy granted it makes them not as good at protecting art unless u manualy tell them to attack all the time

Euro CV Drones are pathetic and compare nothing to JSF or Spetnaz. Read my post why and decpiher they only fire one weapon system after they get there regular rank upgrade. After you've played either sides you'll notice this. The laZors when you can get UNDER 70m look really cool though.
