I am a big fan of the BIA franchise and was eagerly awaiting Hell's Highway. Although it is still a great game, it coud have been so much better...
I had a problem with alot of the AI. Friendlies would often run infront of cover and only use the shortest route, exposing themselves to danger. Enemies did little in the way of attacking, rather they just defended and retreated. Also, not once did an enemy lob a grenade. There were also a number of features from the franchise missing like the "Assault" command, and the ability to drop grenades in enemy tanks. These features need to be reinstated. Similarly, when your fire teams are moving they dont continue supressing. They just run and worry about supressing when they get to their location. Still the best shooter out there, but hopefully for the next one some of the bugs are fixed and some new features added. |

One idea for a new feature in the next game could be a medic or medic squad. I know that when I am playing the game and one of my men goes down I would prefer to restart the checkpoint rather than continue.
There should be a situation where when one of your men gets hit, they are still alive, but inactive. This would mean that one of your squads would have to perform a rescue operation and drag, carry or stretcher the wounded man to cover and then heal him. This could either be done by a designated squad that contains a medic, or any team member having the ability to heal. The whole idea of the BIA franchise is to have fire superiority over your opponent. Instead of one of your men going down and simply having one less weapon until the next checkpoint, this feature would force you to divert your own fire away from the enemy because you are worried about your wounded man. Also it would take away the fire of a whole team because they are forced to carry out the rescue. This gives the enemy a chance to increase their fire on you and begin flanking you and your teams. This feature would really suite the make-up of BIA because it would create an extra tactical consideration and also make the player more attached to the men and overall storyline. PLEASE PUT IT IN THE NEXT GAME!! IT WOULD BE SO COOL!! |

Like a more realistic version of the Gears revival system, almost.
Not a bad idea. |

Have you tried Full Spectrum Warrior? It is a simular game (not as good in my opion)and you can heal wounded team mates. They actually give you a time limit. If your man goes down you have a couple of minutes to pick him up and carry him to an aid station.

I just started the PC version and I gotta say its really great. I loved the other 2 as well (1st one on Xbox and 2nd on PC) and when I played the 1st one on Xbox I thought it bought a whole new dimension to the 1st person shooter. But this latest one is absolutely brilliant, the best one yet in my opinion. I'm talking purely single player here as I've not tried the multi player of Hells Highway yet.
The only thing is that it doesn't seem like there is a skirmish mode like in Earned in Blood which is disapointing (I loved playing that in co op with my bro on Lan) but so far the main campaign is the best yet and it looks great and runs well to on my pc. |

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MORTAR SQUADS.... ( i remember an interview which said there was gonna be some.... HUGE LETDOWN...
Multiplayer is being EXPLOITED... many ppl ONLY use Bazooka's ( the splash damage makes it very hard to kill w/ a rifle before a rocket hits you). If ANY changes COULD BE MADE.... please Focus on AI in Singleplayer.. ( being MORE AGGRESSIVE).. and in Multi player.. ( add an OPTION TO REMOVE TANK AND AIRSTIKE FROM GAME... ( infantry only ) that would be a half decent compromise for all the ppl who don't like the game as it is.. I like the game... ( i just feel the Multiplayer was set up for an OFFICE LAN... more so than Internet gaming... ( its obvious the scale was small ( 10vs 10 isn't enough for me) thanks for listening.. Thomas |

I just played this game and I'd have to say a lot of the people writing on this forum are pretty generous. It's not a bad game by any means, but I'm just seeing a lot more glowing praise than I felt it warranted. Granted, I may be jaded because I was playing so that I could write about it on AutomatedGamer, and I've been spending way too much time lately playing not so great games. This one could have been spoiled for me by mediocre titles before hand.
With those disclaimers out of the way, I enjoyed the game, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Better than a lot of games out there, but there are a lot of other games that are better. The aggregated score on our site put this game at an 8. Even that feels a little high, but I wouldn't take it any higher. Is it just me? Am I totally out of touch? If both some of the pros and some of the fans seem to see a lot more in this game than I did, does that mean there's something here I'm really not seeing? It's more likely that I'm just spoiled now. Looking back, a couple years ago this game would have been fantastic. But today there is just a lot stiffer competition in FPS. I don't know if Hell's Highway can really really stands up to it. I can see that all the likes and dislikes as well as improvements for the next BIA that you posted are the same ideas as mine. Let make it short, just make the game like what we can see in the first trailer, in which Baker get a grenade from a fallen soldier, in prove the AI, expand the map so that we can have many ways to reach a location or flanking and put every cutscene in first person as they did in the 2 previous games, they were so emotional. Then they may have made the best game ever. Thank you for allowing me to post my mess and to share ideas with you guys.

I don´t know if what I´m going to say is already said but, first of all I have to admit that brother´s in arms can be consider as a pioneer because, I think, it´s the first game which permits you to give order to your squads and that´s something really original never seen before.
My idea to improve the game is about squad´s AI; I have read several complaints about it because sometimes when you order to your squad to move to certain position they exposed too much theirselves because they do the short way. I have realized that complex movements are very difficult to be done by our squad because we can´t control all the map. What I mean is, we can use the map menu in order to design the route, for example, our squad is going to do. In that way, if we decide to stay in a position giving supression fire, our squad can go exactly to the desired position without having to go with them like we were their parents. Using the map, you could select the squad, or squads, you want and track their future movement. That could be a solution to fix the squad´s AI and become a more exciting game. I am not english and I think this explanation is difficult to understand but, this could be an interesting idea because it would be the first game which would be two games in one: a strategy one and a FPS one. Thank you for your attention!! |

I understand what you are trying to say, it's a bit like ghost recon advanced warfighter. If they made the game that way, there will be no diffence between the two games. But it's not a bad idea anyway. Thanks for your contribution to this topic do come and post gradually. And your English is not bad at all, it's good.( better than me, may be?)

I must say i have been a fan of BIA since day 1 with hill 30 and EIB
which were both fantastic games. brothers in arms hells highway though was just a letdown. first things first, the destructable cover was just ok yeah it was pretty cool tearing through fences and boxes but come on, if i shoot a bazooka at a house i should not see a big black spot i should see a hole as big as me in the wall. Secondly wahts with not being able to go prone? thirdly the AI of the krauts... i had to laugh at this because i mean come on not one time did i EVER have a german come at me or flank me for that matter. as for the tanks, i was terrified of them in the first two BIAs but i just laugh at them in this, before they would come at me and punish me for even trying to walk through their territory now they take laps around buildings and wait to be killed. Another thing was the gore, while it was Pretty cool blowing the tops of the germans heads out, why not the whole thing? and if you blew a germans leg off, the seperation would always be at the exact same place. i was hoping to see bullet holes in the krauts that i dropped, not even a blood spot on there tunic. only time ther was a blood spot was when you got a head shot, and i only saw 3 different faces of the krauts in the whole game. Speaking of the krauts did anyone ever eat an explosion of a grenade thrown by the germans??? i was hoping when bakers squad members got hit they would at least fall in different positions when i played they hit the same position every single time, and i saw absolutley no blood when they did get hit. In terms of them obeying commands they were pretty on target with that so no complaint there. Also there should have been more of a story with that german general that you kill when the bridge gets bombed. and more variety in the uniforms please? i mean come one they were all perfectly dressed no dirt spots or nething? at least roll some sleeves up or have the top button of their coat unbuttoned because they werent all in perfect dress while in battle. the graphics were okay but whats with the mouth of matt not MOVEING WHEN HES GIVING ORDERS??? I did however like the storyline with the bantering of the troops and all that, but the cutscenes were always sketchy. when i looked at the game in 2006 with the demo of them playign it i thought there would be NO game that could even compete. heres why they screwed it up. -Cover system was not needed -No prone ability -No fierce AI -No fullfillment in destructable cover -Gore system was too repetative -Technical limitations caused the game to suffer serverely im hoping and praying that the next one is a complete redemption of hells highway |

I have Brothers in Arms on my iPhone. I have been playing (and replaying and replaying) for weeks and weeks the Tunis Surprise visit mission. I get to the point in the mission where I am to blow the support beam in the airplane hanger and for the life of me I have not been able to figure out how to do it.
Please Please Please Save me from a stubbled and crimson eyed demise in an insane asylum, and help me to figure this out. All the best-- |

i'm a bia fan and have been since the 1st 2 came out and thought the tactical gameplay from the previous games was unriveled but hells highway i feel was a missed opportunity, there was to much emphasis on gory kills and drama.the tactical excellence of the previous games and the multiplayer seemed to be an after thought which in turn meant the life of the game was a 10th of what it should be,there wasn't even one downloadable content.i will buy the next in the series because i'm a huge fan but pray the makers address our concerns with the next installment.

I bought the game the other day as a fan of the series i was looking forward to playing it and enjoyed the single player campaign. But then i played multiplayer and what a huge disappointment that was. only having one mode to play (capture the flag rubbish)and the limited character & weapons seletion. what were they thinking ? you can't have multiplayer without deathmatch & team deathmatch. ( apologies if posted wrong dont use forum much )

The first BIA game is one of, if not, the best games i've ever played. i have all the main games in the series. Road to hill 30, Earned in blood and Hells highway. The overall story so far is great, and i only have one real complain.
And that is that BIA:Hells highway lacked all the co-op modes. playing with a friend, even though you had to share the screen, is awesome. The mode when you fend of waves of Germans while you and your team mate command 1 squad each. and the gamemode where you have to destroy your opponents targets, while having two squads each killing off eachother. Those gamemodes are great and gives the game much more playable value. please don't do the same mistake in the next game, for gamers sake! include the good'old co-op modes, really, i still play the two old games regulary cuz of those gamemodes. |

Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway , is one fantastic game, the developers and everyone who had a part in making the game should be very proud. i cannot wait to see what happens in the next game, to see what different places will be visited. im not a seriouse gamer, i just apreciate the care and devotion that has been put into this game, i myself lived in kookenhoff holland for 5 years of my life when i was a little kid, when i showed my parents the screenshots my parents recognised the streets and the style of houses straight away! the graphics and scenery is beautiful. And the gameplay is exciting.

I'm sorry SuperSteveX But Hell's Highway is not a fantastic game. It's a good game. I don't agree with you for one bit. The developers delayed the game for several years and came up with this. I'm certainly not proud of them, i'm dissapionted in them. They let us DOWN!!!!!
I'm a big fan of BIA and played them all, and i hope that gearbox makes another BIA and delivers. They can call me and i'll help them because Hell's Highway was a total failure. They know it too, because they won't release updates to adres game issues and DLC. I love the skirmisch mode in EIB. They abadoned the game. (I understand this, because it is not an high standard game). Here are my complaints: - Graphics are not that good. (Randy Pitchford said that it was 15 to 20 % better than Gears of War. YEAH RIGHT, Gears of War blows Hell's Highway to the moon, what a bull****!!!) - Bakers mouth is not moving when he gives orders. (Looks ridiculous and even Rainbow six Las Vegas has this.) Destructable cover. (Only sandbags and wooden boxes, come on this this is next gen.) - AI is bad. (When you give orders, you're man just walk in the line of fire and using cover.) - Were is the skirmisch mode??? - When i shoot at a window it should brake, it doesn't. Nothing happens. I will stop now, because i'm crying here. Gearbox what have you done!!!!!!!! |

I loved the BIA series but Hells highway was such a let down. First off the multiplayer sucked. I was expecting some sweet squad action not a bad rendition of a run and gun. Other than that why did they decide to not put skirmish mode back in? That was one of the best parts about the second one and it gave it so much replay value.
But what ****ed me off the most was the lack of challenge that the single player provided. In the previous two games it was nearly impossible to get through some of the missions on the hardest difficulty, but this game was just a walk in the park so long as you have half a brain. Lack of aggresive AI, and something else that i just cant put my finger on made this game a piece of cake compared to the others. Maybe it was reduced accuracy or just bad AI but tanks no longer scared me and machine gun nests and sharp shooting germans just didn't pose a real threat in this game. This might sound weird but i hated the fact that my squad mates would respawn at each checkpoint. When they die i dont expect them to be magically reincarnated in the middle of a mission. This takes away from the challenge and the sense of accomplishment i used to get from keeping squad mates alive. All in all i like it but its not nearly as good as the other two and was a huge let down. |
