hence the complaints.

I mean sure, if one excludes the negatives, one will be left with the positives.

I've just lent the game to 3 friends and they all agree with the bad reviews people are putting out there. Why in the game description on most gaming websites have they written:

'Completely new multiplayer experience: Fight major multiplayer battles with dozens of players on each side, combining all the intensity and accessibility of Deathmatch with the squad-based gameplay that helped make Brothers In Arms famous.' quoted from www.game.co.uk
When this just is not true.

and also

'Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway – next generation: The classic authentic, squad-based combat series explodes on next-generation hardware, offering unprecedented graphics and features.'

the graphics are OK at best and there are no features present that we haven't seen in a dozen other games.

my take on the game .

1st off the obvious . 1 multiplayer mode 6 maps . The gameplay itself is not at all what I would call a "tactical shooter" where one must rely on squadmates to insure victory and/or survival. Many of the games I played simply ended when one team eliminated the other a la team deathmatch.
MP graphic oddities ... 1st of all it looks dated ,,,The animations quite jerky,,, maybe that's ok, but my teammates feet were often not touching the ground. They just hovered around the map ..Had to laugh . No Iron sites for the heavy Machine guns . The tanks, when hit would often spin like a top . It was hard to even know if you were in trouble ...you may see fire and you're in spectator mode just like that.Funnier still, the tank cannot move a little old jalopy out of the way .There's loads more, but why bother with that. On to SP . * MP tip * Try Red Orchestra.

Single player .
Looks dated , glitches ,etc , read those in the other complaint department .

I find it too easy . Why ? After easily getting through the 1st 5 levels (veteran difficulty) I realized why.

All you have to do is sit behind cover ...you may never die hmm....
... and...
There's been a good deal of talk about the AI . One thing I noticed is the Germans never put any pressure on you ! . Sure ,,, if you stand in the open or expose a squad you/they will get hit . But the germans have yet to give me the Ole "FFF&F" . They haven't even tossed a grenade my way ! . When they do have a tactical advantage ,they never exploit it! They just shift positions and then you play a simple game of " whack-a-kraut " they pop up. Bang .Dead. This is very apparent in the sniper/church mission where each german tucks neatly into his cubby hole waiting to get waxed. To make this somewhat fun try a Kar 98. I find myself often saying "Damn if they knew what they were doing ,my boys would be in real trouble" Sadly they don't .

I've actually gone to the kitchen and came back. My squad was still wailing away at the last german just standing there behind a hay bale. I put my snack down and with 1 shot the torture was over . For who I don't know.

The next level brings you a new set of the same hay bales ,low brick walls etc ...
The triggers are funny ,,, Often, the enemy won't do anything until you do. There hasn't been an "Oh my God , these guys are coming to fight and they ain't playin' " moment yet . Nope . They just line up and resign themselves to their fate . That's pretty much the game aside from the story . For me , there are far better stories on this very subject(Operation:Market Garden,101st Airborne, WWII ,etc.) in books. It's a little too "Hollywood" for me, although the squad members ragging on each other is pretty funny .And that in a nutshell is what I would say this game is...pretty funny .

I love this game, specialy for the new options in the control system because I HATE to use the left or right thumb stick to aim(It's to slow to click once and have to click again to lower you're wheapon)like in RSV1 & 2,I wish every game had the same control options left trigger for aiming fast and practical just like in Call of Duty series and now in Brothers in Arms wich is an AMAZING game now with the controls fixed.

With regards to the AI, I don't think its really that bad. I've yet to see the enemy do anything stupid, and prefer the fact that they will retreat and seek new cover, especially compared to MOH:Airborne where the enemy are very aggressive and just run at you ALL the time.

The squad AI isnt too bad either. I havent seen them take cover in the wrong place yet and although they sometimes take an unconventional route to new cover you can minimise this by taking the time to select the route that will be safest or tell them to take shorter, safer routes. I've played all the games in the series and i don't think the cover spoils things at all. Sometimes it provides a nice break so that I can choose my tactics and also makes things a bit more cinematic.

The multiplayer is pretty shoddy, but I think the singleplayer is awesome. If they can add on the skirmish modes it will be much better.

Graphics are pretty solid, could have been better but I think they capture the vibe pretty well.

Overall, great game but multiplayer improvements would be very well received by me and I'm sure everyone in the forum.

Here are my multiplayer ideas

1) I think they should add more multiplayer gaming modes. From past games, it can be seen that run and gun multiplayer games work. Many people want them so I think this is what gearbox should give. From a marketing standpoint this will attract a run and gun style player and keep this part of the field happy.

2) I also think in order to attract the other style player (tactical), they would have to add a game mode just for them. I think that a game mode where rankings take place would work. Points for rankings could be given to players that have beaten the game on different hardness levels and hours of playing to give an initial start of rankings. My idea here is that the person with the highest rating will be in control of the other players (i.e. Sergeant controlling his men) In this the sergeant can tell his men to fall in. If they don't fall within a certain distance of the sergeant with a certain amount of time, they can be demoted. People that listen get points for a higher ranking. The sergeant can also have a command that allows the other players to free roam. Points for rankings could be given for kills and assists. The sergeant in control can lose points if his men die. I think that this would be a perfect system for the people that want to play tactical. With this game play mode, I could see the true idea of finding fixing flanking and finishing come into place. Just by adding these two modes, it would improve the game making it a game that would last a long time. It would appeal to both sides and there wouldn't be any arguing. The idea of a ranking system would make the game last a long time because it would always we fun to play, and there is something to play for. ( a better rank in order to lead your own squad) This online squad based play would give a new meaning to multiplayer and tactility.

3) Also there should be a way to invite friends.
Anyways these are my ideas free to any thoughts or comments. Let me know what you think!
I would really like to see this in BIA Hells Highway and hope that gearbox can make it possible.

this may be off topic, but marshman, the whole point of brothers in arms is that you use your squad to gain victory, if you dont use them right you fail.

I think he's referring more to the German's not using their squads. Which I have noticed too, they don't attack you ever they just stay on the defensive. They never flank you or press the attack when they have an advantage. I'd like to see unsuppressed enemy squads trying to suppress and flank you.
Other problem I have is I don't like aiming in third person with machine guns, leaning out of cover and tanks. I want to be able to aim with the sights, I can live with the 3rdperson cover and tank when not aiming though.

Hint: check the options, you will find what you seek there. (left trigger aiming).

i think this game is pretty good, despite all the negative comments i tried it, i think the reason why people are so annoyed is because they have been waiting 2 years, ive been waiting about a week. i think the multiplayer is good fun once you get into a big game.

My suggestions...

Fix the retarded hands (especially on multiplayer).

Fix the square clothes for german on multiplayer in first person.

Fix where when you have the german rifle (semi one) on multiplayer so that your arm dosent move upwards when you start moving.

Add some traditional game modes like team deathmatch or conquest along with some new maps set in the fields (like in single player) because all the maps are dull and town based.

That's EXCACTLY what I mean . Especially when you consider the German doctrine at the time advocated aggressive attack/counter attack .

The Germans believe that only the offensive can achieve
success on the field, particularly when combined with the
element of surprise. German military literature, for the
past century, has emphasized the need for aggressiveness
in all military operations.

cool game, I was a big fan of the first two BIA games and patiently waited for well over a year for hells highway. I am not super impressed but greatly satisfied. There are some obvious advancements over the first two (in terms of game play, destructive cover etc.) but I'll have to agree with most that the AI didn't seem to be as aggressive... they just fired and waited to die. And what's with the last level? you don't even finish as Baker? Way to easy of a finish in the Tank. Anyway, I don't play online much so its always cool to have a good story-mode game to play. Satisfied, not super impressed but looking forward to "BIA, Battle of the Bulge" or whatever. By the way, anyone heard anything?

I really loved the single player experience, though I thought it was too short. The tank levels didn't fit the BiA playstyle at all (why remove the sections which had you command your squads and a tank like in the previous games?).
As a Dutchman I loved the Dutch voice-acting. Even though Nikolaas had a eastern European accent in one of the first missions (which luckily gets changed to a real Dutch accent).

I really was looking forward to playing the game on authentic mode. But this turned out to be a huge letdown. It's downright awkward to remove the crosshair (yes I know a crosshair isn't realistic, but hear me out) when firing from behind cover. Firing from cover is now reduced to blindfiring your weapon. Which is strange, because you'll see Baker aim down the sights while he's firing from behind cover. Since 'cover' is such an important part in the gameplay mechanic, it feels like the authentic mode got implemented without testing it first.

Multiplayer was a huge letdown, but I feel previous posters nailed most of that already.

I really loved this Brother In arms from Road to Hill 30 and Earned in blood. The new multiplayer in Hell's Highway with the recon and air strikes and tanks weren't needed in my view. The reason I fell in love with the original xbox games was the smooth game play. The efforts of multiplayer should have been put for different game modes and better game play. I mean why are there guns missing? Just odd. The lag issue isn't a main concern, this happens in a lot of games on the release date. The issue is there was too much change, which made BIA a great game.
As for single player, BEST GAME PLAY EVER! Love the new additions. I mean hats off to the developers, but the BIA series brought out multiplayer you can't lose that, but this game looks more focused on single which let a lot of people down. Hopefully they can restore their reputation before it hurt sales. I had two friends take the game back already. Not giving it a change. We live in a world if instant gratification. People aren't willing to wait for bugs and glitches to be fixed. They will just move on to another game.

Future fixes. Gearbox where is the skirmish? Co-op? What happen? With the game being backed up later and later I planned for this game to smoke the COD series and other 1st person shooters. I love the single player i'm just...let down deeply.
