I thought that the controls could be reworked so that the game would almost be playable.

Get rid of using motion sensing. Put nunchuck in the right hand and remote in the left.

Nunchuck is your gun, which at least feels more like a gun in your hand than remote.
joystick aims target, C enters aim mode, Z for shoot.

Remote in left with keypad for movement and straffing, A for jump and B for crouch. (jump could possibly down with a flick of the remote up)

Reload can be done the same, shaking nunchuck. Change weapon maybe by shaking remote to the left. Blah blah rest is up to you.

If only games offered customisation or choice of alternate control setups!

I would not have bought redsteel if the camera and weapon aim was by using the nunchuck sphere. The whole point of a wii fps is so that i can aim with the remote as if a simulated gun.

But yes, customizable controls is always good, though, i think red steel's controls is already very well done.
