Hello. In my russian version's of SH4 manual is described, that it is possible to reset counter-solver (don't know, how it is called in english) and zero the target information by clicking "X" sign on the map-case (or plane-table). In that case you can use periscope to directly adjust torpedos course. But I can't find the "X" sign and directly lanch the torpedo to any direction without locking target.
Well, my english is so poor and the first post was tricky for understand, I think. I would know, is there any way to quickly adjust the gyroangle of torpedos, using periscope without computing?
I want to answer, but I don't exactly understand what you need. Do you use manual targeting? If you don't lock on, the torpedo will aim for the crosshairs. Does that help?

Yes, I think I understand. You mean resetting the data on the notepad?
Having had the same problem, someone here told me that the X on the data notepad refered to in the manual was the target recognition notepad. Maybe, but I on't think so. I think there is no data notepad on US submarines, it's only found on German subs. The SHIV manual, then, refers to something that doesn't exist in stock SHIV, only SH III ans SH IV with U-boat missions addon. Short is, I don't know how to rest data on US subs to enable "point and shoot" but I'm sure someone here does. Sorry for long winded "I don't know"

Yes, I mean manual targeting. Try to do something like the russian submarine commanders, who hadn't even simplest mechanic computers and made all the countings manually.

That explains all. And I think, if you have transmitted the target data in the computer, the gyro-angle will be set automatically even when you unlock the target. But need to try.
Thanks again, glad to see, we'v passed the language barrier at least partially
