I am on my second patrol in a gato and the surface search radar became available, so I bought one. I also upgraded to the improved air search radar. Now I get no radar warnings about planes. I do have the radar on, although I can not seem to keep it on sweep mode. What am I missing here?

Are you turning your radar on using the tool bar at the bottom of the screen or do you go to the inside of the sub and turn it on that way?

I have tried turning it on using the button on the tool bar and the toggle on the radar set itself. No difference as far as I can tell. There is a tool bar button that says do one sweep and shut off the radar. It does nothing.

When you turn it on using the button the tool bar, does the color of the button change or the button next to it?
If not, you do not have this type of radar installed yet. That is my guess.
What date are you in the war?

The toolbar button will turn color to activate the radar and the display will show pips for contacts. It is the SD or air search radar that does not seem to be on now. Airplanes don't get identified until they are visually spotted. There was never any way to activate the SD radar, it was just always on. Now it seems to be always off. I saw someone mention raising the SD mast in another post. I know of no command for this. I am in the middle of 42 and the SJ just bacame available. I purchased the SJ and upgraded to improved SD.

I am not sure if I can help you any further or not. Someone else looking at this might be able to jump in and help.
Just one more question, are you playing SH4 1.4 or SH4 U-boat mission 1.5?

I had the same problem and solution was to go back to entering base save and stick with old radar, for me any way. I found no way to use improved air radar - I alway have time to submerge and get out of sight or make a decision about the aircraft no mater what radar I use - later in the game I bought the improved air again and no problem - looks like a glitch that you can buy before it exists?

Don't know if your problem is the same as mine but I find that every time I go to the radar room, the right-hand switch moves itself off sweep and onto focus, which of course defeats the purpose while cruising. I use 1.4, but it's been this way since 1.0. For it to sweep properly, I have to click on the switch, which moves it back to sweep, then leave the room. Then I stay out of the room, and just turn it on using the toolbar button after I surface.
