During WWII, what did the troops eat. I am just wondering whether they ate the non-perishable food items brought along, or found whatever they could at local food stores. K-Rations, Tasted like ****, but it kept em going. The troops favorite snack was M&M's, they also could withstand bad weather, so they were normally in abundance.

For G.I.'s K-rations, which came in three configurations: Breakfast, Dinner (Lunch) and Supper. Breakfast was the most popular as it came with coffee powder. The other two had either lemon powder or bouillon. Each contained a small can of food, crackers, gum, a small sugar ration and a couple of cigarettes. The problem with the K rations was that the troops quickly grew tired of the bland diet and there just wasn't enough in them. There were also C-rations and the D-ration. C-rations were similar to K's, and contained more food, but were heavier and bulkier to carry. D-Rations were basically a high-calorie chocolate bar that was intended for use in emergencies. Whenever possible (which for the frontline troops wasn't very often) the attempt was made to bring hot meals forward from the field kitchens. Troops also supplemented whatever they could scrounge from the surrounding countryside. Packages from home would also sometimes include items that could supplement the G.I."s diet.

![]() i dont want to serve in the USMC during WWII, they C-rations are worse than K rations hell now we use MRE's otherwise known as Meals Rejected by Everyone "Real Servicemen don't brag about their service" Sgt. Far as I know they got plenty of ocasions to drink some alcohol - like calvados [mainly in Normandy]. During opearion Market Garden, when British were in charge, US paratroopers had to eat british rations pack. They loved small portion of rum which was given, and they hated puddings - im not surprised why
I dont forget they got also a chocolate bars. |

K-Rations were the staple (which had just the right amount of calories, carbs, etc...), offset by candy, D, C rations, and stuff they scrounged up in the countryside

You will get owned by the mods for necroposting. I think its because posting on old dead topics brings them to the top of the list and and puts them infront of topics that may still be debated. Just thought Id tell ya before you got your head bitten off.
In future only post on the top topics, and check that the last post by someone else on that topic wasnt too long ago. We have to watch out for the Hanomag carried troops, their fast hard and crazy as **** PSN Account: Hanomag1404 |
