Hi everyone,
As posed, I ask two questions that as a (British Gamer) I want to discuss, whether or not an answer can be verified. Firstly the topic origins attempt to incorporate WWII and the newly released Band of Brothers and PStwo FPshooters. 1) Whilst Band of Brothers is fundamentally the next step forward from Medal of Honour (Frontline- East asia non-inclusive) most gamers marvel on the atmosphere, graphics and gaming, however long for a more inclusive and active recallation of the British impact on the war as part of the Allied Force. Socom 1+2 are very good games. Medal of Honour franchise is also good (particularly for psone nazi homour) and so is some of the conflict series (note: Vietnam maybe should have become a PSThree game and not a MoH cashine on format jobbie (see games released- shame). I am calling for more British gaming experiences. 2) 'Releive the 101st Airbourne' Brothers in Arms experiences bla bla bla. Yes American dug in, Saving Private Ryan was Excellent and so was Band Of Brothers, but WE WERE THERE, WE ALSO STOOD STRONG. The French and Intalians surrendered (no suprises there- ha. The French fielded their borders with the ultimate Dads Army (see british tv sitcom). WE DID NOT. WE WERE THERE AT NORMANDY, whilst the Italians persevered with their culture of of glamour and stupidity (See motorbikes and no helmets in Turin). My grandad was their in Berlin when Hitler finally committed suicide. My Great Grandad was in the first World War (I have his Christmas WW1 1914 Ration box) whose brother got shot down by the red baron and survived! Basically. I Know American Stripes sells games but us Britsh have stories to tell with U yanks, whether WW2 or or up to date i.e. SAS in Afganistan. All i ask is for other stories to be told. + Also that more games like and including further additions of Band Of Brothers continue. R.I.P Those who Fought And Died In the Two Great Wars |

Good man thomo1981, nice to see a fellow brit saying the truth. The reason that most games and films follow the U.S side of war is that they are more patriotic then us brits - i wish the UK was more patriotic the only time our flags are waving is when the bloody football is on, well not mine i have a Union flag, RAF flag, Army flag and St Georges cross waving every day of the year, and when people moan i say that there is nothing wrong with loving our great country.
P.S. good comment about the French (lol)- there backstabbers. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!! --------------------------------------------- 8:50 AM 7th July 2005 London - Never Forget. |

Ah, we got a new governement, we will call it Vichy, we will say we're neutrol, but we'll bee your stool pigeonz. No, Breeteesh, you cannot land your silly troopz in Algiers... hey! YOU SUNK OUR BATTLESHIEP! Allright, we're with you, English. Excellentement, we're going to free our home countree, you British and Americunz may come along if you wish... what? Nono, you silly Americunz, you cannot free Paris, we'll do that by ourselves, eh, vive La Gaulle! WE HAVE WON ZE WAR! Vive la France!" The Frénch... |

There's one thing you can say for the French:
They're always there when they need us. Then again, they did pull off a hell of an operation to flank Monte Cassino... |

I guess I agree, in principle, that most Yank games don't offer up enough coverage of what other countries did during the Second World War.
Which is why so many people think the Americans won that war single handedly. It's one reason I like Call of Duty and it's expansion pack. It's nice to see what other nationalities experienced in that game. It'd be nicer still to see it more often in other games. To paraphrase Call of Duty, In the War that changed history, no one COUNTRY fought alone. |

quote: Oh, okay then... Jacques Chirac, The French Prime Minister, was sitting in his Office wondering what kind of mischief he could perpetrate against the United States when his telephone rang. "Hallo, Mr. Chirac!", a heavily accented voice said. "This is Paddy down at the Harp Pub in County Sligo, Ireland. I am ringing you inform you that we are officially declaring war on you!" "Well, Paddy," Chirac replied, "This is indeed important news! How big is your army?" "Right now," said Paddy, after a moment's calculation, "there is myself, me cousin Sean, me next door neighbor Seamus, and the entire dart team from the pub. That makes eight!" Chirac paused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have one hundred thousand men in my army waiting to move on my command." "Begorra!" said Paddy. "I'll have to ring you back!" Sure enough, the next day, Paddy called again. "Mr. Chirac, the war is still on. We have managed to get us some infantry equipment!" "And what equipment would that be, Paddy?" Chirac asked. "Well, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Murphy's farm tractor." Chirac sighed, amused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 6000 tanks and 5,000 armored personnel carriers. Also, I've increased my army to one hundred fifty thousand since we last spoke." "Saints preserve us!" said Paddy. "I'll have to get back to you." Sure enough, Paddy rang again the next day. "Mr. Chirac, the war is still on!" We have managed to get ourselves airborne! We've modified Jackie McLaughlin's ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and four boys from the Shamrock Pub have joined us as well!" Chirac was silent for a minute and then cleared his throat. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 100 bombers and 200 fighter planes. My military complex is surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I've increased my army to two hundred thousand!" "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!", said Paddy, "I'll have to ring you back." Sure enough, Paddy called again the next day. "Top o' the mornin', Mr. Chirac! I am sorry to tell you that we have had to call off the war" "I'm sorry to hear that," said Chirac. "Why the sudden change of heart?" "Well," said Paddy, "we've all had a long chat over a bunch of pints, and decided there's no foo-kin way we can feed two hundred thousand prisoners. " |

Personally, I got nothing against the French.
I can't. An Uncle of mine died in the fighting around Caen. (South Saskatchewan Rifles of Canada.) If I put them down, I dishonour his sacrifice. That being said, about those Simpson's quotes: Groundskeeper Willie (pitching in during a teacher's strike) teaching French: "BonJOOOOOR, ya cheese-eating surrender-Monkeys" |

I don't hate every living French person, but i do hate their Government. It took them 60 years to give the D-day veterans a medal, and after liberating thier country the French banned the UK from joining the EU for a little while in the early 50's.

Oké, my opinion:
It's good to involve some british in the wars in which they fought because there wasn't a war in which the involved Britisch didn't inflict some decisive dammage. But you cannot blame the French everytime! If the Britisch weren't situated on an island, or if the Britisch were the French they would have lost the same way because they believed the same thing as the French, walked into the same trap (Dunkerque), and were also inferior to german weapons. Thank your Island, otherwise there wouldn't be a superior navy, a good functioning airforce and England wouldn't function as a base for American and Britisch forces before the landing at D-day. A good point is that the Britisch were mentally better and were also better prepared for war. the French really wanted to take everything by themselfs, do everything under their command, like the first days of the war in which they made the defence-plan in which actually also many Britisch and even more Belgian soldiers were involved. But Britisch and Belgian governements are always kindly to follow someone's lead and they did so. Also on D-day and maybe that's why many games only mention the Americans: The devellopers think: "The Britisch walked up from behind" eagle 2 - greenlionhaert - das Kaninchen |

Like i said i don't hate every French person, heres a true fact about WW2:
When Germany invaded Poland every German soldier was under strict orders to fall back the Germany if they saw the French troops attack, but they did not counter attack when Germany broke the treaty of Versaille (can't spell). So the French could have stopped WW2 before it started. Another bit of evidence of their rubbish Government. P.S. I know that it was geography and the RAF that saved our great nation. Want a game starring the Britts? Play Hidden and Dangerous 2... all about you crazy commandos and their Fairbanks-Stykes type antics
As for the French, I have little to say. They had a resistance, but so did the Poles (GO TEAM POLAND!... though I am american, Polish ancestory). They seemed to roll with the punches a little TOO well and a little too early in the war. As for the British, next time appoint a better prime minister at the start, not some colluding coward (Way to go Winston!). That bastard (Chamberlain) almost sold you guys out! Excellent show overall, with a special thanks to the Cannucks (Canadians) for their part in the advance (Juno was no picnic either)! To those who fought for their countries, I lend my respect (this includes the poor decieved Germans, Japanese, and Italians who served believing as we all did, in God and country). All other nations, you know what you did |

I could not agree with you more mate some great points there, all the Countries of WW2 fought very hard and should all be recognised. I also respect all the troops (both allied and Axis) except for some SS troops and some Japs (except for the ones that used Brit and chinesse POW's for Bayonet training) the japs fought with some courage, more than any other nation, they fought to the death no matter what now thats patriotism for you.
quote: About the point of the Brit PM again i could not agree more, Chamberlain was scared of his own shadow and started a war then got scared. Winston rules (RIP) --------------------------------------------- 8:50 AM 7th July 2005 London - Never Forget. |

I'm American and I know why none of the British are in games(except COD) is that the people who make these games are Americans(and we are patriotic hehe), but why don't you guys make a WW2 game w/ only the British in it? If it was sold in America and I could understand it(i can't understand your guy's slang and everyday speech, its funny that we speak the same language, but they're almost foreign languages the dialect is so different) I would play it, but its just and idea.

What on earth do you guys have against France? can we cut the cowboy attitude and be respectful to people from other countries in this public forum?
