Hi every one,

I wanted to ask what will determine that you carry a thompson or a garand or a 30.cal,
does it something to do with youre rank or you have to choose your gun, or do they choose it for you?

Thanks

I'm not to sure, but i bet the rank has alot to do with it, as a lot of NCO's carried thompsons, but it could have something to do with how good you are with a certain weapons during your training.

The M1 Garand was the standard infantry rifle, those from Pvt. on up used them. The Carbine was issued to junior officers, clerks, weapons crew. The Thompson was issued to squad and platoon leaders though for the PIR they were in larger numbers than in the leg infantry. The 1911 .45 Colt was issued to those in weapons crew, officers and those that could get their hands on one. The .30 cal all rifle squads(9 total per company) were issued one giving the PIR more firepower than the regular infantry and making them the only ones that could slug it out toe to toe with the Germans. Hope that helps.

Then or now?

Anyway during ww2 the standard issue Rifle was a Lee Enfeild Rifle - a great, accurate and powerful rifle. A good story about the Lee Enfield during WW1 was that German troops used to mock the rifle because it was not made by mauser, then all the critics were silenced when a German MG nest thought they were under heavy MG fire, but it was a sqaud of brits with Lee Enfeilds Big Grin.
Troops also had the Thompson, Sten, Bren Gun and various forms of Lee Enfield (sniper, etc)

Now the standard issue rifle is the SA-80 or L85 (check out sig) We also have the L96 (sniper) GPMG, L85A2 MG version of L85, L85USG, L85 with a grenade attachment, SAW gun. And a new rifle for Tank crews is L85 "Stubby K" Short version of L85 (looks as weird as it sounds).
Can't think of any more at the moment.

Yeah I meant now,

Does every country have the same weapons or each country has their specific weapon.

The weapons that the UK uses are mostly exclusive to the UK as they are made by brit companies for the British military, some regiments in the British army do use the US M16 such as the SAS or SBS, the R. Marines some times use aswell. Also the British weapons are not in the Black market.

Weapons that are exclusive to the UK:

L85 and its varients
L96 (sniper)
L85 "Stubby K" Tank crews rifle.

We do use a lot of US and German weapons such as the SAW gun, GPMG, MP5 (SAS CT's fave weapon)Barret sniper rifle.

Heres a link from the British Army's website that shows all the equipment we use.

Holy ****, i thought the weapon in splinter cell was made up Eek

FN make some great weapons, i know that they made the standard issue rifle for the UK for quite some time before it was replaced by the L85. My dad said the FN Fal (i think) was the best rifle that has ever been made.

Great link cheers. Thumbs Up

The gun in splinter cell is a real gun but was just in development stages when they made the game so they made up the specifications etc.
