We get The Military Channel on digital cable here in Canada.
Just caught a episode of 'BattleField Diaries'. This episode was about the first men in on D-Day. Veterans featured were from the 505th, 507th, 508th PIR of the 82nd Airborne. And one from the 4th U.S. Infantry division that landed on Utah Beach. They talked about taking Chef du Pont, St. Mere Eglise, La Fiere Bridge (and the Manor farm next to it) and taking/holding crossings over the Merderet River. Hill 30 was also specifically mentioned, and shown, in relation to the Battle of Hill 30. Some of those Vets fought there. At the end of the episode, one of the Veterans said this: "NO ONE REMEMBERS HILL 30." Show 'em we haven't forgotten. Sure it's a game, but it's based on real events. Show 'em the World Remembers. Allied soldiers all came together to fight for freedom and save us all. And they triumphed. No matter their nationality, show them we DO honour their sacrifice, and ARE grateful for the sacrifices they made in the cause of Freedom. And that we'll NEVER let their memory be forgotten. |
