You guys may have seen the trailer for the movie coming out called "The Great Raid" which is based upon a true story of amry rangers rescuing POWS's in Bataan.
If you want to read the book ahead of time about the raid...there is one I am reading now called "Ghost Soldiers:The Forgotten Epic Story of World War II's Most Dramatic Mission" by Hampton Sides.
very good book....if you have any doubts as to why the bombs were dropped...start reading this!
Has anyone seen the movie yet? I stopped believing film reviewers years ago.
And did anyone catch that special on the Military Channel last week where they told the story of the raid? Each and every break had the commercial for the movie... (what odds, eh?)
The only thing that bothers me is that the movie won't be realistic enough.
After seeing real footage of the real POW's, the actors all looked as huge as Fat B*stard from the Austin Powers movies...
Is this a new film?? Did u know that the British also helped out in saving the Soldiers at Batan? I read an account of a soldier telling of his awe as British pilots strafed the Japs there. Just thought id add that in lol.
Yes, it's a new film. Just opened in theatres over the weekend. One of the stars is Ralph Fiennes, who played Jude Law's Commisar/Buddy Danilove in 'Enemy At the Gates'. From Stalingrad to the Pacific.
Another guy played on the soap my wife's fave soap: All My Children. He's Kelly Ripa's husband. She replaced Kathy Lee Gifford as Regis Philbin's cohost. (She was also on that soap, where the 2 met and went from playing love interests to ending up married in real life.)
Recently out on video and dvd is another war picture: Saints and Soldiers. I've heard good things but have yet to see that one either.
I saw Saints and Soldiers, theres even a topic on it in the off topic barracks and i thought it was okay but could have been WAAAAAY better and it was boring at some parts
