First, how does it work when a soldier gets promoted? are people only promoted when needed? for example, can a Corpal only get promoted when a soldier with higher rank dies or is unable to continue for one reason or another?
And also, if we have a squad like the ones in BIA, how much does a corpal have to say in battle? for example: If a Sargeant tells his fire team to take cover behind a rock, can the corpal of this team then deside to move the whole team away ten meters to find better cover?
I hope I made myself understood. And that it's in the right forum.
First off, a promotion can happen at anytime. Most of the time it's based off leadership qualities, and getting the job done right. But a higher ranking soldier DOES NOT have to die to get you promomed.
For instance: Say you are a coporal in a squad of 4. The squad leader, a sergeant, sends you on some mission you do it right, and they promote you. You become a sergeant, but stay in the squad, still under the command of the other sergeant until you get your own squad to command.
Brothers in Arms works in a wierd way. It's true that sergeant do give commands like that, but corporals have some freedom as to where to go.If they are ordered to clear a house, they can do it their way, unless instructed otherwise. So yes, they can move to better cover if they are under fire.
Many games can be weird in different ways. Thats why I never take them as facts. I obviously understand that WW2 happend and that atleast most weapons in games like that existed. But I never refere to a game as I play it for fun and not to learn from them. Though, it's ofcourse fun that they try to make a realistic game as I'm intrestead in history.
