I realy haven't said much about this issue but I need to say something about. ALL day during school or at other social events, whenever someone learns
that I take German, the first words out of their mouths is usually "you Nazi". First of all, that is very offending to anyone who loves to learn the German language(or culture), and especially insulting to my teacher from Germany. Because ONE man used Germany as his way to conquer the world, just about everyone these days seems to believe modern Germany is "Nazi" and those involved with anything of the German culture are "nazis" The world is little educated on the fact that 97% of WW2 era Germans were NOT pro Nazi, they were only fighting for their country. Can the ignorant people of the world not realize that that time was past, not present. Yes they still are Nazis in Germany, and there are "Nazi supporters" everywhere in the world, but people need to understand that Germany is not as it was. Do you encounter anything such as this during your day? What do you say to the people who make those accusations? |

There are times you can`t say anything to them. I just feel sorry for people like that, who are so small minded about things of that nature.

I have a unique perspective on that subject.
Where I live, the twin cities of Kitchener-Waterloo in Ontario, Canada is home to a large ethnic German population. It's home to the largest German beer festival outside of Germany and Austria: The annual K-W Oktoberfest. Everyone picks up at least a word or two of German in the course of living here. And there's a considerable number of people who became Canadian citizens after the war and made a new start far from the ruins of Europe. While there's intolerance and prejudice pretty much anywhere anyone goes in this world (people being idiots isn't limited by geography) overall the Second World War is marked with respect by those who experienced both sides: Those who fought for Germany or were citizens of Hitler's Reich. And those who fought against them. And the veterans of both sides are respected when observing Remembrance ceremonies. It's a lesson in acceptance, reconciliation and tolerance that others could, should, and need to learn. |

I'm glad to see that people in Canada are reverent towards that matter, hopefully, one day, some people here will begin to feel the same. I have a real respect for the German soldiers, they fought no less harder than any other peoples would fight for their country, they were loyal to the very end, and the fact they were led by a bad man shouldn't take away their rights of being called a hero, even if they fought on the other side of the
line. |

The reason is because is that some people haven't forgotten the past.
And I think the German people are forever stained with what they did in that time. You can blaime Hitler fore it but you have to blaime the people aswell because they supported him. The germans of that era were taken advantaged of...the world was suffering from world wide famine and depression, hitler lied saying he would make things better...he did...for awhile, but then he already had the germans brainwashed to agree with him....only later on in the war did germans realize how corrupt their government was. |

I think the ppl who call ya a Nazi just for learning German suck... I'm not German (well, almost, I'm Swiss) but well, it's like my mother tongue. I'm learning Russian and sometimes ppl get strange thoughts about that too. I just don't give a f..k about that... I think it's great that you as American (I guess you are?) are learning another language (no offense meant!)
But I don't think that there are no Nazis left just because WW2 has ended long ago - in fact, there are more and more new nazis (and not only in Germany!!), I have the impression... Kids, we shouldn't forget history... |

Brian u said "97% of WW2 era Germans were NOT pro Nazi". Good D.amnit i would like to ask u who chosen Hitler and his party to german goverment?! 3% of germans?! Dont think so! And i dont understand that explaination "they were only fighting for their country". LOL u want to tell me they attacked Poland and killed 6milions of civilians (by shoting in back, by killing kids by crushing their heads on walls) in my country because they were fighting for their country?! D.amnit what have we done to them that they had to fight without honor for their country with us?!
Airforce1234: Im sure german history isnt so black but for almost 600 years germans were attacking us so many times that its hard to think for me its not black :| I know it can sounds like im anti-german boy or whatsomething but im not. Im sure germans changed for better but nowadays i wonder why did pro-nazi party got almost 12% of votes in last elections to german goverment?! Peace. This message has been edited. Yes, Homer, you're quite right. Surely more of the Germans were pro-Nazi - or at least not against it! I think so too, I was just saying that nobody should be blamed for learning any language...
I also said that it's kind alright to say that some of Hitlers ideas were just great (like highways and **** like this) - ppl in, well, let's say rather high positions are allowed to say that here (Switzerland)!!! That really shocks me. We have problems with new fascist too I know Swiss history has lots of black holes in it - but the Polish one too (no offense - I'm studying your language Well, as I said, I think it's dangerous to forget history... Yo, peace! IvaN |

They got some clean and nice camo...
Just tell the ppl you gonna give 'em a safe job, you wanna clean the country up, you gonna build new highways... Hey, ppl like that ****! They're mostly too lazy to go behind the facade and really inform themselves - who cares about politics anyway?! I see it in my country: All strangers go out! You have a war in your home country? Well, we don't give a f..k about that, just go back where you belong! In times of "shortage" of jobs, ppl start liking such political ideas... I just hate it... |

no offense was intended Homer_SimpsonPL and I'm sorry that Poland was invaded, hell,I'm sorry WW2 even had to happen, I am 50% Polish, and my Grandfather was sent to a labor camp by the Nazis, and I hate them for that, but you can't sit there and say every German was a Nazi, watch "on Common Ground" if you dont believe that they were normal. It's a documentary of Americans and Germans who fought against eachother went back 55 years later to meet eachother, those Germans were absolutely normal men fighting because their country asked them to, unfortunately an a**hole named Hitler ran their country. I can forgive a normal German soldier, but the ones who f.k'd the world up were Poltical. for an explanation on how the German and Nazis tied toghether, read "Soldat" by a German officer named Siegfried Knappe.

that is simply nonsense and a Lie of you. There is NO ultra right Party in the german Parlament. In german Elections the "neo Nazis" get 2 or less % so they cant get into the Parlament because of the 5% border. In FRANCE "le Pen" and his Neonazi Party has around 15%.
Between 1918-1939 the german minority was badly surpressed in Poland, in the end the german Minority was put into Concentration camps. Here some Facts for you: and you wonder why the Nazis picked on you to attack first? |

Come on Crushda... I agree with a lot of what you're saying but it's just too easy to say that Hitler attacked Poland because of the reason you said above!!!
It was MUCH more comlicated than that; check out the facts about the relations between Hitler Germany, Poland and the Soviet Union! I don't say that it wasn't hard for Germans in Poland, but still, this is NO reason for such a war!!! Besides, if that had been the reason, then why attack France, Belgium, Holland and all the other countries (well, let's just say b'out the rest of Europe)?! |

I havent said with one word that the actions of the polish Goverment are Reasons for the World War 2.
I have to wonder why the polish Guy does wonder why Poland got attacked first/ or even attacked at all after these actions against german Minority in Poland and Germany. |
