Question:
No joke, the army is changing its default sidearm, a beretta 9mm, to a heavier caliber pistol. I read the army times about 2 months ago on their talks about chaning to a higher caliber and personally I beleive that they should switch. After all the army has used the .45 from 1911 to 1985 and now after countless complaints about the 9mm's poor stopping power (killing power)they are switching back to probably a .45 or a .40 caliber.I have shot the same 9mm pistol that the army is most likeley going to dump and the .40 and .45... Personally I beileive the army should switch back to a .45 (it was the most accurate and powerful out of the 3) The only thing the 9mm has over both guns is Clip cappacity (15 shots capared to 12 or 8)

PS. the .45 that there thinking about switching back to is the same one you shoot in BIA

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK

Choices:
.45
.40 (just a little bigger than 9mm)
9mm (just a little smaller than .40)
.38 (a little smaller than 9)

(a picture of a colt 1911 45 on left a .45 round compared to a 9mm (right) the 1911 chambering a .45 was made with only one thought in mind "(when fired) to stop a charging man in his tracks and to drive him back"

Really, they are thinking about switching back to the M-1911? I personally thought they would go for a more modern design (not to say the M-1911 can't be modernized) such as an H&K, like maybe a USP or a MK.23 SOCOM model. If they do switch back this means the M-1911 will replace the M2 heavy caliber machine gun as the oldest weapon in use by the US military. This is very possibly another case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Hopefully the US military will continue this and go from the 5.56mm round to the 7.62mm round, and update the 7.62mm round for sh*t sakes!

key words: THINKING and ALMOST

It is ALMOST a fact that there gonna switch back but who knows mabey they I heard they might not due towont pricing issues. but if they do switch back they are considereing an HK .40 and .45 and a 1911 but personally I believe they should highly consider a 1911 with a newly designed clip that can hold like 10 because that would install more army tradition and well, i just think it is an EXXECELENT gun

well lawmen and even my dad carries a USP .40 caliber ( my dad is a pilot for american airlines and now american has the option of protecting the planes from terrorist attacks)and the .40 caliber packs a bigger punch that the 9mm so no, its not to small because the military is using a caliber smaller than it already ...lol ....

Army is not only switching its sidearm but M-16 will also be replaced by (probably) a Heckler and Koch model.

The new gun is called xm-8. if you google it you'll get plenty of stuff, even some cool videos. Looks like a plastic toy but is light and deadly.
And it is based on HK G36

I really have to wonder in general why a little kid/ boys do bother what sidearms is used in a Army of Adults.
You should care more about your GI Joe muppets or Big Jim figures.
+ I could not imagine a thing of less importance for you little kid "Dori1234" then a side arm.

dont diss him becuase your older than him, and that he is interested in what the U.S armed forces are carrying and what they do.

Let me put it to all of you this way. It is going to stop right here. I don`t care who posts the next thread, if it has a slam, a cut down or any kind of flamming, that person gets some time off. It has been pretty peaceful around here until I saw this topic. And Crushda, comments like that are not needed here. Same goes for you Dori, what you said doesn`t make you any better then him, if anything, it`s worse. TDC_kar98, you can stop with the by_passing of the forum filter. Keep this topic on track.

How old is this dori1234 person? And I agree the 9x19mm is not up to the plate. It's fine in an automatic weapon such as a sub machine gun, but a pistol needs a slightly, 'larger' caliber projectile. .45ACP for the WIN!

I saw some really good and hypermodern 1911's in a magazine. I think this weapon has a chance.
