Its a shame that some people don't even care.
They don't even know what date d-day was. This is funny a few guys in my class last year where discussing what d-day meant and one of them said that it was dooms day, and i had to tell them that it was descision day , its a shame really. actually...i think it just means day as in...how old the campaign is.
as in...d-day or h-hour. like d+3 is 3 days into the campaign. so d-day...was the day it took place. land on the beach...its 3 hours into the landing...so...h+3 or something along those lines...its used for measuring time/days. 2nd Lt. here ya go...i found this...pretty much what i said...
What Does "D-Day" Mean The terms D-Day and H-Hour are used for the day and hour on which a combat attack or operation is to be initiated. They designate day and hour for an operation when the actual day and hour have not yet been determined or announced. The letters are derived from the words for which they stand, "D" for the day of the invasion and "H" for the hour the operation actually begins. When used in combination with figures and plus or minus signs, these terms indicate the length of time preceding or following a specific action. Thus, H-3 means 3 hours before H-hour, and D+3 means 3 days after D-day. H+75 minutes means H-hour plus 1 hour and 15 minutes. Planning papers for large-scale operations are made up in detail long before, specific dates are set. Phased orders are planned for execution on D-Day or H-Hour minus or plus a certain number of days, hours, or minutes. According to the U.S. Army's Center of Military History, the earliest known use of these terms is in Field Order Number 9, First Army, American Expeditionary Forces. It is dated September 7, 1918: "The first Army will attack at H hour on D day with the object of forcing the evacuation of the St. Mihiel Salient." D-Day for the invasion of Normandy was set for June 5, 1944, but it actually occurred on June 6. Therefore, D-Day, as it applies to Overlord, is June 6, 1944. as stated above...very clearly...from of all places...dday.org and on dday museum the D in D-Day merely stands for Day.
theres nothing to discuss. and if u think otherwise its just your opinion its not, as shown above, fact. 2nd Lt. George Rice: Looks like you guys are going to be surrounded. Richard Winters: We're paratroopers, Lieutenant, we're supposed to be surrounded. |

RIP soldiers who ever fought and died for a cause!
As you chaps were talking about the meaning of D-Day the version I knew was: Deliverance Day I might be wrong though but it really doesnt matter what it means the main poin is that it happened and shall be remembered. One little thing that could be stupid, but I feel I have to say it. In September 1999 I decided I just gonna see how long six years is. And in May 2005 came to the decision that it was hellova long time and just wondered how lucky those soldiers were who survived. so plz NVM if its stupid i was just thinking loudly "There is nothing more exhilirating, than to be shot at with no results" Sir W.L.S. Churchill |

i once heard...a teacher or principal had kids collect 6 million bottle cap (or the pull tab things on aluminum cans) just to illustrate to the kids how many 6 million jews being killed was. a good lesson....cause people say....ya he killed millions and everyone just says it like its nothing....similar to what u said about the 5 years.
