Sorry Finn, I saw you asked me in the 1C forum, and I forgot, apologies.
Film 3 is much improved over the last two, that's certain. The music, oh well each to their own, but with a rock track, the edits need to be faster, or paced to the music at least. Continuity: 46 seconds, which wing is towards the ground? I make it the right. Which wing is towards the ground at the next cut? Looks wrong. Same at 55 seconds. 1.18 seconds, you were doing well.....but Mouse-Pan!!!! ARRRRggghhhh, stands out so obviously. 1.58 odd jump in cockpit. 2.05-2.10, too many cuts, looks wrong again. 2.43 slight mouse-pan again. It's only small, but very noticeable. Turn Vertical Sync on too, as the tearing on the screen is noticeable. 4.07 plane position jumps without continuity. 4.56 film edits too tight, you don't give the viewer time to adjust to the views. 5.37, could have done with a filler shot, between wheels down and landing. The cut looks wrong. So I'm pointing out a lot of wrong things aren't I? Finn, the criticism is only to guide you so that the next one is sharper and much more quality. So-far your progression over 3 films is excellent, and you are making the most of TIR and the camera angles that's for certain. Personally I'd rather have a music, no voice, soundtrack, as the one you chose just (for me anyway) doesn't suite the film. Capture quality looks fine, even though you had issues with frame-rate, and the sequences work well. Overall, a little long for solely a dogfight film, I think 2-2.30 would have kept the action tight and much more viewable. See if you can look at the film objectively, and chop bits out that, even though you might like, really don't need to be in there. I mean a couple of crossfades (they give you the impression time has passed), would have worked well with the wheels coming down, fade to rolling on runway, fade to stationary plane. You lose about 20-seconds of footage. That's how to tighten it up. Hope you take it as advice and not to heart. As I said, pretty good for number 3. Cheers, MP. |

Terve FlyFinn,
I'm just writing to say that I enjoyed the flick. Overall I think it was good. I read MP's post and then I watched the film, and since not being a movie maker myself, I noticed none of the technical things that he mentioned. As I said, not being a movie maker at all, and as member of a general audience, I couldn't pick out any technical things. I didn't think that the Tom Petty song fit. The second song was cool. Maybe some Nightwish, or Stratovarius for the first track would've kept the theme constant. My other issue was with the action. There was no defensive fire, wingmen, formations or other attacks than simple stern shots on non-evasive enemies. 75 kills? all solo? Single SB's and Yak's over Finland? Like I said, the filming was good and I thought that the cuts were put together well. Just if the AI (at least the lead) was veteran, The SB's were in a formation of maybe 3 or 6 (with some defensive return fire) and if Mr. Wind had wingman also it would've been very good. I know you worked hard on it, and it does show. I did like it, but that's what I noticed. Also if there is way you could compress it in DivX, or a higher quality and have it available for display in a better format than .flv would be sweet too. Kiitos for the good film. B50 |

Hi..
Mysticpuma i tried to cut off small pieces of mousepan.must been tired.. and the jumps with wings pointing wrong way.. I see easy now where i could cut better.. i like to do longer slower movies.. I like to jump from outside view to cockpit. i need to get better flyby views too.. the fast cuts is for let the viewer see whats left to shoot at.. My puter is old too..waiting for Storm of war then i get a new one.. ok i try to work on the cuts.. but i think i will be "Famous" B class director.. THX MP.. Browning50cal: Thx and now i know maybe my B- movies are good enough... this was only a Qmission to make someting about H wind I cant make missions.. my next B-movie is from a campaign..i will be a wingmen.. But Hasse was little wild.. About Hasse wind.. Early in the morning on 13 June 1944 Wind led six MTs to reconnoiter the results of FAF bombing raid on a Soviet "tank park" the night before. The mission turned into an interception fight as the Finnish pilots detected a formation of Pe-2 bombers. Their escort fighters were not up to their task. Capt. Wind shot down four bombers in quick succession, the other pilots downed four more. Then the Finnish Messerschmitts escaped. In the afternoon Wind was leading four MEs in another reconnaissance mission and they were returning home with task accomplished, flying at treetops. At Halila Wind saw six Pe-2s at 1500 m escorted by 16 "Airacobras" at 3000m flying north, to bomb Finnish positions. Wind decided to attack, again defying the orders to avoid combat. He ordered each pilot to pick a target, then they began to approach unnoticed under the bombers. When in range, Wind commanded fire. Four Petlyakovs were destroyed, the two surviving escaped and the Finnish fighters disengaged before the enemy fighters intervened. Wind was reprimanded for endangering the reconnaissance results twice the same day, but consoled himself by thinking what the Soviet commander of the escort fighters could explain to the politruk.. After destroying of 5 Pe-2 s on 13 June 1944, the incredible series of Wind's kills was continued in following days: 15 June - 1 P-39 + 1 IL-2M; 16 June - 2 Pe-2 + 1 La-5; 19 June - 2 P-39 + 1 La-5 (flown by a Hero of Soviet Union, major A.V. Zhirkov). Now Wind was flying a brand new G-6, "MT-439". The plane was still under German insignia because there was no time to painting work. 20 June 1944 there was the toughest day of the war in the air. FAF Messerschmitts (30 aircraft) flew 126 missions, were engaged in 13 air battles in which 49 victories were scored, without losses. This day "Hasse" add to his scoreboard 2 La-5s + 2 Yak-9s + 1 Pe-2. Two days later (on 22 June) he got 2 Spitfires + 1 La-5; next day - 2 La-5s + 2 DB-3Fs; on 25 June - 3 Yak-9s + 2 Yak-7s. That makes 30 victories in 12 days. Wind took off fast after alert and attacked the enemy ruthlessly, without planning or hesitation. When in shooting position he fired accurately at close range. But Wind was very bitter not being able to help the Finnish infantry, being terrorized by Shtormoviks. On 26 June 1944 he test flew the MT-439 after repair and shot down 3 Yak-9s. His last flight was on 28 June 1944. He shot down 3 Yak-9s and returned to base badly wounded - please check the full story at: http://www.sci.fi/~fta/finace02b.htm pics of Wind.. http://www.kolumbus.fi/kari.stenman/2004_theme_14.html --------------------------- Hot sauna..Cold beer..Yeeeh |
