Salute!

Here is the squeal to Pictures of War (the original not the narrated version) which was released last year. POW2 starts from the perspective of the Task Force attack whilst Zulu 1 to 3 are off on their attack sorties, if you have not yet seen Pictures of War (the original) here is the link: www.montydan.com

Again, as with POW, I want to applaud all involved with the voice acting, skins and plane FX, and especially to GL2 who gave a dedication to the voice acting task that was well above the call of duty Clap Clap

I am inviting anyone to critique / comment on the movie, but so no confusion is made as with POW when comparing this movie to other types of movies, POW2 is a ?Hollywood Fictional Drama? style movie as all my previous three movies, and most probably my last of this style.

This squeal is 30 minutes long so grab yourself a drink, and please keep your mind open and receptive, it will help!

A simply stunning movie from beginning to end!
All the hallmarks of a Monty Dan movie are there, innovative shots and pans, interior vehicle shots, first rate music choice, great special effects, excellent editing and another brilliant script. Voice acting is by far the best yet. I've watched the movie three times so far and have loved every viewing.
Without giving away any spoilers I was taken by the orginality of this film, carried off deftly and plausibly considering the subject matter.
Of particular interest is the back story which in no way indicates the actual focus of the film while setting the scene perfectly. Same with the "post" story which is a perfect set-up for the finale. How the end of the film was handled took me by surprise and was very satisfying.
Yes, it is a "Hollywood" style film so purists should take note that this film is for entertainment value and boy do you get enteertainment AND value!

If this was a theatre release I would have no qualms about recommending you spend your hard earned money to see it. As it stands this would be my pick for Film Of The Year.

Bravo Steve! Well done!

I have a complaint..

It ONLY lasted 30 mins!

Monty, I agree with Falcon. This is the best ever IL2 Movie, in it's true sense of the word.

I tend now to watch IL2 movies from a technical/critique point of view, but this was totally different. It was so enjoyable, and such an emotional ride, that I was totally immersed in the experience.

A fantastic job, and I'm sure we all appreciate the effort you put into this. I wish I could do more than just say thanks - I would have paid good money to watch this one, ya know.

Oh, and I have to say GL2 did a brilliant acting job on the narration. This was a key factor in the success.

Can't wait for POW3.

As ever Monty, yet another master piece that has again raised the bar.

As stated above, this is the best movie ever.

The subject matter introduced an interesting and credible twist, flawlessly put together.

Only complaint was the bit about careless flying regarding the two Zeros colliding. That took some very careful flying on behalf of Bbloke and myself to pull that off!

~S~ M8 and carry on the good work Smile

I really liked it, as it transcended the medium of being just film from the game. Very nice incorporation of different elements that made a story that was both interesting and compelling.

Congratulations Clap

Outstanding movie in all respects! Thumbs Up

As the years of IL2-FB-PF movie-making have passed, it has become ever more important that an engaging "Story" should be conveyed if the Movie is to have any enduring success, in terms of entertaining the audience...and a wider audience than just FB-PF air combat afficiando's!

This movie has a great story, a great plot, and then some...conveying excitement and tension and emotion and surprises.

It masterfully blends Flightsim Machinima (game-capture) footage with Special FX and other "real" and "CGI-like" footage.

I hope that you submit this one to be included among the Best of the Best over at the soon to be announced FlightSim Machinima Website.

I am very confident that you will have an excellent shot at being awarded a Golden Oleg there at "FlightSim Machinima". Good Luck! Wink

Wow! It really is one of the best movies I've yet seen. Great camera work and some really nice pans in it. I surely will watch it several times in order to learn.

I particularily liked the scene in which 2 zeros were persecuting the Corsair. Great views!

The only thing - but it's just a matter of taste I guess - I didn't like so much is the water setting. Though this reflexions look cool, they seem to me a bit too perfect.

But don't mind my ignorant remarks. I really liked the suggestion of this alien abduction. LOL! Hilarious, simply hilarious!

I am sorry to say this and I will be utterly flamed for it I have no doubt, but... I didn't like it at all as a film.

The story line over stretched the limits of this filming technique in my opinion and the story line couldn't be delivered with only aircraft, jeeps and boats. Even then - with physical actors and a Hollywood film set - I doubt the story would have held up.

Technically - all looked and sounded fantastic. My only gripe was on the shots of Flight 19 taking off and early into the flight some of the shots had too much camera shake on them and seem to go beyond conveying turbulence and seemed annoying. I do have a terrible headache today though so it might just have been that Smile

The voice narrator did a very good job and I thought he sounded very natural, the chap talking about the weather for flight 19 sounded a bit robotic - but voice acting must be a difficult task and certainly something I couldn't do well.

It was about 15 minutes too long for me, I lost interest almost immediately after the story suddenly became a comedy in the "2 zeros" scene. Sadly, I couldn't bring myself to watch it to the end, I was too annoyed.

I hope you don't take offense to my comments Monty, they are not intended to offend - but to deliver my opinion honestly. I loved POW 1. This, for me, was a bridge too far.

I know I am not a film maker or director or anything - but I feel reviews from people who aren't involved in making these films should be valid. It is Joe Public (who doesn't appreciate all the finer technical points) who I imagine you want to watch the film and enjoy it so I thought I would supply comments from that point of view for you.

Absolutely amazing. Totally immersive from beginning to end. The story was fantastic, the acting was superb and the directing was first class. This was more like a film than a machinima clip. God dammit why did you stop at 30 mins!

Serious congratulations, five stars.

Well, I'm not Monty but I did play a small part in the film making.
Sir, you have a right to your opinion and I for one am glad you expressed it. Although not a film maker myself I do the occasional skin and make missions. Comments about what someone didn't like are more necessary IMO than having nothing but praise heaped upon you. Only with critisim can anyone find out how to improve upon their work.

Thank you, (sincerly), for sharing your point of view.

OH MY! Eek

No, really! The science fiction there is not the plot but the outstanding qualities of this work in each and every regard! I have had the pleasure to watch MANY movies based on IL-2, and a few of them being almost as perfect as Come with Me. This one is PERFECT too, and way more complex. Fantastic narration, cinematic, photography, soundtrack, story and flying. O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G.

It's my new #1! Thumbs Up

Plus, I see Oleg Maddox among the stunt pilots. Smile
Care to reveal the making-of and the behind-the-scenes? Wink

This was a really unique movie. It really kept me watching and I really liked the ending, both the idea and the technical side of things.
Like many others I agree that the voice acting, especially the main character were excellent and really made a big contribution to the movie.
I liked the scenes at the hospital and the beach house, espceially the brief clip of the moonlight walk under the trees.
As someone else has already posted, the water made me envious of your PC but was TOO perfect for the Pacific Ocean and I also thought there was a too much shuddering movement when following the planes in flight.
I can imagine there was a fair amount of time spent in flying and reflying that dogfight in the valley so well done to all the pilots concerned. I thought the tracking shots in this section were very well done, too.
Totally different. Well made. Interesting and unexpected story. Great voices.

Monty-Dan,

Just finished watching the ?movie? and I am really impressed, I was wondering on how to comment without spoiling things but I see others have already done that so here goes.

I loved the music score and the timing of torpedo hits with voice and drum beats etc, the camera shots and angles added the cherry on top. I am not experienced enough to appreciate the ?technicalities? that you used but I can appreciate the hard work and the results.

Voice acting and sound effects were very ?Hollywood? and lent a professional element to the viewing. Regarding the Avengers pre flight announcement it reminded me of an A.T.I.S brief. I loved the low level chase with the zeros and the camera work there was excellent. Also I liked the scene when the Avengers were first established over water, I actually liked the ?shake? effect, the panning and the differing speeds used, you made the aircraft look very realistic, just like the beech under the stars. I almost forgot I was watching a Sturmovik production, very immersive.

The story? Well I have an open mind so no probs here. I just sat back and took it all in, 30 minutes passed very quickly. It definitely is an entertainment ?movie? and you blended the past with the present and threw in a portent of things to come.

I just realized that making movies must also require a good knowledge on the use of FMB: the weather, way points, skins, A.I, target setting etc, I?m sure the list is endless but you combined it all and made a unique classic, well done. Only one thing that IMO that disrupted the flow was the ultra fast camera cuts on the zeros as you panned in time with some drums, it was so fast it almost looked like a stutter, but a couple of seconds out of a near perfect 30 minutes is nothing really.

You have a talent matched only by your imagination; I hope you can do more in the future and not just for the Sturmovik community.

Good luck: piper

OT: lol, I was just listening to Zeppelins ?stairway to heaven? when I typed this post and when I typed my name here, the line ?the pipers calling you to join him? came on exactly when I typed ?piper?. Ooooh, spooky.

No, you're not alone, I've watched it several times now and just can't seem to get into it. The camera work and narrating are all outstanding, I don't think anyone can deny that, but the movie itself lost my interest after the 'lights' appeared. I guess when I heard there was a sequel in the works I got too excited thinking it was going to be a huge action movie and there was going to be some big retalitory vendetta strike made against the Japanese that sank the carrier, or just a lot more of what we saw in the first POW. The film is a success by the number of people whom enjoyed it, I just wish the series itself had taken a different direction...

ty for the film and congrats to those who were a part of it. Look forward to seeing the next movie from Monty Big Grin
