I have made a couple of shorts for fun and I am an amature at best. My last attempt (4th video) has many of the mistakes I have been reading about. It was produced for my squad and has room for much improvement. My request is in regards to the sound track. I am only using the basic tools to create: Fraps, V-Dub, and WMM. The end result video offline music sound track is crisp and clean. After uploading to youtube there is a most definate loss to the sound quality. This maybe just a youtube reformate thing? Any thoughts?

Yes, youtube compresses the video and sound quite badly. Also, sometimes it's better to not put the sound output on maximum when rendering the video. You're better of finding another site to host your videos. Try stage6.com or netwings.org

If you're using WMM, the wmv format is not a good option for youtube. You're better to render in the one avi option that WMM has, DV-AVI.
You can then use VirtualDub to resize to 320x240, and use the bicubic algorithm for better quality. See http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=55744&topic=10523 You'll need to sort your aspect ratio as well - that video was squished. But like pigeon says, try www.stage6.com for better quality or even www.blip.tv |

That really answers the question nicely thx to you both. I now have a copy of Sony Vegas 7.0. Would that be a better tool to use instead of my current approach?
