I have noticed that You Tube has a "high quality" option for stream viewing. I tested the viewing of my stuka movie with this and looks much better than their usual poor quality. (I uploaded the full res version on You Tube)

Dang that's good!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW_zHZ5MPIA This looks very promising! blip.tv and vimeo etc are good but just don't have the same audience size. They also have a lower framerate. I'm trying to find the exact specs of the high quality, can anybody find more info than this: MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format MP3 audio Video resolution: 480x360 or higher Frame Rate: 24fps or higher http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=91450&topic=14116 i.e. what is the bitrate of the video and the audio? How high can the res go? Thanks for pointing this out biltongbru! |

Biltongbru,
How do you get this option? I tried uploading a hi-res clip (720x480) and it only shows in youtube as the usual low quality image. There is no option to 'watch in high quality' like yours. |

Hi Joe
I just uploaded the movie and was not aware of any option. I lately use the "multi video uploader" where you need to download some software from You-Tube. Maybe this uploader auto create this option if necessary? Yesterday I uploaded a 35 sec clip on You Tube and it features the high qual option. |

Ah, scratch that! the high quality option just appeared abiut an hour after uploading. it must be a processing delay - call me mr. impatient!
It's certainly not 720x480 but at least a little better. I compared the same clip on Vimeo which is by far the best, but the problem with Vimeo is you can't embed at high res. Here's some comparisons (all captured at full screen then resized to 720 width): Youtube Standard Youtube High Vimeo

It's all getting very interesting and very bandwidth orientated.
Would be nice to see a Blip.TV cap in there for comparison too. BBloke --------- Danger Dogs and Hell Hounds Pound BBlokes IL2 Movie Database | Monty-Dan Virtual Movies | FlightSimMachinima Website | Honour Our Veterans > "Mother is the word for god on the lips and hearts of all children..." < |

Didn't do a blip.tv clip. Although it is good for embedding the flv version is only 15fps and reduced quality - better than youtube for quality, though I think the high quality youtube is 24fps, still not as good as vimeo. From a promotional point of view, youtube still wins.
You can actually also stream your original video from blip.tv in it's virginal format. Problem with that is the player just goes all black until enough of the movie is downloaded. Anytime you present a viewer with a blank screen for more than a few seconds, he will get bored and move on. The quality winner for me has till got to be gamerztheatre streaming, though that is not a free for all to use. |

Second goal is best by a mile he must have been 40 yards out
The higher res youtube is certainly better although there's still a 10min limit on movies unless you become a "director" I cant look at that without laughing, plus there's no download option. One slightly strange thing is that the high res option is'nt always available even for stuff I know is in high res including some well known il-2 movies. It's still where the mass audience is though without even trying you find stuff getting linked and embedded in flight sim sites all over the shop. |

Finlayson, an old Morton stalwart. I was behind the goal at that strike and you had to be there to appreciate it! Saved us from relegation......OT, but you started it!
Aye, the youtube HQ is promising if we can figure out how the heck it works. You can't even link to the HD version - you have to trust the viewer to do it manually or detect it automatically. Not a very consistant approach, but I guess Youtube has to conserve bandwidth wherever possible while still saying that have HQ streaming. |
