I know this is a filmmaking forum, but I think this is an appropriate question to ask here since a number of filmmakers have put their projects on the back burner waiting for BOB to be released. I almost never venture beyond the confines of the Movie Makers Forum, so I have no clue what the status of this game is. Can anyone fill me in on the latest developments? I know it's way past due, but that's about it. What's the latest news on a release date? Someone in another thread suggested it might never get released. Your thoughts?

1C Maddox are giving no hints at all - they've alredy been burnt by offering release dates and failing terribly with them.
We can't even get an answer on when the lates patch for IL2 (4.09) will be released. It was put out as a beta over 3 months ago and again there is NO information on a possible release date. GL2, I wouldn't hold your breath! Even 6 months would be a conservative estimate. Some movie makers, including myself, have also realised that while BoB:SoW will have great enhancements, it will be severely limited in the stories that can be told. It is a very small theatre with limited aircraft, though of course this will grow over the years in the same way that IL2 did. There is still plenty of mileage in IL2 for making movies and telling stories, and it will continue to be used as a tool for a few years yet. |

Yeah Ditto Joe really.
I have 3 installs of IL2, one the 4.08, one the 4.09 beta and one for movies (Joe Two things made me go with IL2 for "Checkertails". 1) There have been a lot of improvements recently in IL2 2) Even when BoB is released, realistically about March next year (I guess, as Joe pointed out who knows!), well I'm not going to see a P-40/47/51 appearing anytime soon for it, so rather than delay (those WW2 pilots aren't getting any younger), I thought 'just go for it'. Personally though, I do think that this could be it for me as-far as film-making goes. I just miss the fun of fighting online with my mates, and making films/ documentaries they tie up so much of my free time. I still enjoy making them, don't get me wrong, but this one in particular has a lot of detail that needs to be right on the mark, and there is already a lot of guys contributing to it's creation, so the pressure is/will be on to create the best documentary I can, which is a break from the 'movie' I usually do. But so-far, after seeing the work in progress....man it's worth-while Cheers, MP. |

Yep indeed.
Waiting for BoB is just stressful as we all know but it wont happen until 2009 on my opinion. I think the big-shots in this community should get back in film business like MP thank god for that. Like MP said I'm not either seeing P47 and Mustang's flying over channel yet. But on my head im just thinking what the Slovakia will bring, you know that you can use it on to all other stuff like maybe battle of britain film |

Thanks for your thoughts, guys. I agree that BOB will be somewhat limited for a while due to the limited numbers of planes, although maybe filmmakers could combine some IL-2 video with BOB video to make films. Early 2009 works for my time frame. I'm holding out for a Nehalem processor in a Mac Pro.
Good luck with your film, MP. Sounds like it might be the best thing coming in 2008. ~~~~~ Learn how to make your own IL-2 movies here: Dart's Filmmaking Tutorial and Machinima Movie Theater Download the film "Faith, Hope and Charity": DOWNLOAD PAGE Find download links to the best IL-2 films here:Flight Sim Machinima |
