Salute!

I produced this video simply as a personal record of my single Cockpit Only View kill with no icons and 0.3 cal brownings only, which took me over 100 attempts flying the same mission. I have got to applaud all you regular Cockpit View only flyers who get regular kills bow never again for me, to difficult and frustrating.

Another challenge was making the video visually entertaining with only two objects and a very linear subject matter. However, I was pleased with the results and decided to release the video. It’s not perfect by any means but I hope that newbie movie makers will take something from the editing and cinematography?

Brilliant Clap

Just shows what an exhilirating 'Virtual Track Video' can be made from a very simple premise.

And yes, I was sad at the end. Without spoiling it, I saw what were you were trying to portay. It worked.

Nice one Monty.

Oh, if you really want to improve those skills, the EAF has an extensive OTU. It would be great to see somebody in the squadrom that shoot worse than me Winky

heh, I think its something you get used to. Its not nearly as hard as it first seems.
I people dont fly full real because its "more difficult", they do it for the immersion. Much like a movie, immersion is what makes it an experience. As for getting kills.. its not that hard once you get the hang of it Smile

WOW! bow
Nice little film Monty! You have a way of turning an everyday event into an great work.

Besides the great sound effects (from a pioneer of great sound for IL-2 movies), like the engines, machine guns and bullet strikes, there were some nice little touches, like the engine fire. Although it did sound a bit like kindling I have no idea what a burning plane really sounds like but it sure added to the immersion. Of particular note for me was the heavy breathing of the pilot. Just what I'd expect in a real life dogfight and a brilliant touch.

The editing was fantastic. So much better than those YouTube "films" that users put up showing how they shot down this plane or that. The external shots added real fluidity to the piece and gave a good overall feel to what air combat is like. After watching it I realized that each shot was the one I wanted to see. Definitely not your quick-cut-MTV style production. I also liked the de-saturated colors. It gave a somber tone to the film and kept from detracting from the main focus of attention.

One final observation, the opening sequence was startling and tremendously effective. Not at all what I was expecting but it sure set the tone for the remainder of the film. Another brilliant Monty Dan touch.

I am looking forward to your next "full length" film.
Thumbs Up

Great job, Monty! When you said it was just going to be a dogfight between you and an AI plane, I really didn't expect much, but you surprised me. The cinematography is a great example of how keeping shots short and dynamic can really build the action. This was a fairly simple dogfight, but the way it's shown makes it very exciting to watch. UBI could actually use this as an ad for their game! Thumbs Up

So where's POW3? Wink

Not only the quality of the movie was first rate in picture, editing, and sound, but it had real immersion features in it also! I found myself unconsciously tweeking my joystick hand in anticipation of the next twist or turn the A/C made on the screen! Also, it ia a very good primer for all us jocks in combat manuvering!
Thanks!

Thanks for all the great comments guys, really appreciated Smile and I was really pleased with Ballistics comments on the flying side as I am seriously not tuned into cockpit view flying only, I just don’t seem to have that sixth sense that you need.....or a sense of direction either come to think of it Big Grin

So I won’t be taking up your offer Joe, thanks anyway, but I can think of better things to do with my time than being Cannon Fodder for your squadron Wink2

GL2……”So where’s POW3"....as I have said in a previous post on another thread, there will be no POW3 now, I think my time making major movie projects is complete.

I have also got to say that the amount of new real movie makers (excludes youtube videos that are simply recordings of the IL2 track with fraps) seem to have diminished vastly over the past 12 months, have we seen the peak of IL2 movie making from 2004 to 2006, I wonder?

Cheers

Cool movie Monty.. and it doesnt have me in it. Sigh.. sweet. Great work on making it look less boring than a washing machine.. AI can be so predictable sometimes and even though I could tell the camera work and shots were outstanding.. bugger the dogfight Smile Thumbs Up

Nice movie man! Smile

Don't worry about movie makers. I wanted to make a movie since I first saw 'the long goodnight' about 2 years ago. Now I have finally ordered IL2! Can't wait to get started! Metal

I love the Spit and found this movie very good. You have done very nice work with the sound which added to the movie immensely. Now what would it sound like had you used the cannon also? Your 303s sounded brilliant, just like out of the 1969 movie Battle of Britain.

I did notice after watching the movie a couple times that the very first time you fired your guns, you did use the cannon. Take a look. The others bursts you did not. Don't worry. I still like the film and will keep watching it from time to time. It is definitely one of my favorite short films.

As a Spit driver (but I like the Tempest much more) I have been trying to learn to maximize the effectiveness of those 303's by firing at their convergence or you are wasting ammo. A couple yards plus or minus doesn't really hurt but you have to try to get the range right on the money.

Jolly good show. Loved the sounds it really brought the movie to life.

At the end when the 109 was burning I was saying to myself "Come on BAIL BAIL BAIL"

ROFL, Choctaw!

Once I'm down to .303's I usually cry winchester and run for home. Sometimnes you can give a 109 a fright with your Brownings, but that's about all. He just sees the .303 tracer and sniggers.

Oh, please, in BoB when we do get that amazing Spit I, get the Damage Model right.

Sorry, Monty, hijacking a bit. I was just trying to distract from the fact that you have been busted with that little squirt at the start

(I'm talking about the Hispanos, not BBloke Winky ).

Hehehehehe... the 303's are fine.. try a Hurri Mk IIb with them set at around 175 and get close.. they make a nice mess of any plane.. flamed a Fiat the other night with a very short burst.

Gotta get in close and hit the engine or pilot.

I'm gonna ignore the "squirt" remake until you release your next film Wink... I can wait! LOL Demonic
