I've been working in a photo lab during the "transition" period from classic to digital era and was all but impressed with early achievements.
So, I decided to wait and wait and wait....!
Last year I finaly decided to go digital but I don't feel "professional" yet.
What I mean with that is, that I'm still awkward with all the settings and thus not speedy enough, but...i'm getting there.

The other aspect, and probably just as important, if not more, is the equipment.

I was born in the Nikon's nest and felt reluctant to change sides, but after years of faillures by Nikon to produce a decent CMOS I called some friends (all professionals) and asked them for advice.

After they found out that I'm starting with clean sheet, meaning I didn't have any lenses, the replies were unanimous; Go Canon!

Here is the equipement (Promissed the picture to Goose_Green few days ago):

1. Canon EF 135mm, F2 L (Soft focus portrait lens)
2. Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8 L USM
3. Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L ll USM
4. Canon EF 15mm Fisheye
5. Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM + 2xExtender (max 400mm)
6. Canon EF 50mm F1.2
7. Canon Speedlite 580 EX
8. Canon EOS 5 D
9. Canon EOS 1 Ds Mark lll

Excellent post Messervy!! Thanks for posting the picture of your set-up - looks very nice!!

I will have to save the picture and show it to my father when he is visitng next Wink

Do any of your lenses have image stabilising?

My visit to; U-995 - Laboe, Germany

@ Wilhelm and Ronin - No, Jambo Towers isn't a tourist guest house run by a mad cap John Cleese! Big Grin (What a classic series that is - isn't it?) I took this from the Tourist Board information for you:

Jambo Towers has been occupied by the Jambo's for centuries now. What began as a humble homestead grew and expanded in line with the wealth and power that the Jambo's enjoyed from a wide range of business pursuits. Standing in it's own impressive grounds, and by dominating the local coastline for miles around it commands impressive views of the English Channel.

Today, Jambo Towers employs many local people to maintain it and run it, sheltering the needy in hard times (Not in the main house, dear God) and offers pleasant and enjoyable walks in the mature gardens and around the well stocked lakes. With it's imposing architecture and with many of it's original features retained - it has become quite a tourist attraction and is especially popular to those with an interest in English Heritage and stately homes. Food is available, as are ice creams and cold drinks in the summer season.

The Jambo's continue to dwell at the Towers, although they are rarely seen by visiting public, preferring to keep themselves to the private areas. Coaches and motor launches are welcome by prior appointment and we ask that people refrain from walking on the lawns as it takes an age to get all the blades of grass standing up straight and pointing in the same direction.

..... You asked! Wink

Hydrocephalus was the first word that struck me as i saw that. Big Grin

Butt ugly. But i guess thats the price to pay when you want to put the battery and electronic gizmos inside the helmet. Did you notice the cut out ears ? WW1 design strikes back Hammer

Looks like they removed that useless navipad that every soldier had and gave a bigger one with touchscreen to the squad commander instead.

Still too much useless gadgets attached to the body. Angry Blue Guy Most of it will be left at the base like with the current system.

Another pic , the helmet doesnt look that worse here :

I like the new smaller eye protection (the old ski like one was rediculous) and the revised g36, especially the new XM8 style buttstock.

Its now extendable in three stages like that of the M4 but still foldable at the same time. THATS what i call improvement. Thumbs Up

You could try submitting a few photos to a community-based stock photography website...

iStockPhoto is a very popular site for designers, publishers, etc. to buy inexpensive photos for use in work such as websites or brochures. It costs nothing to create an account and submit your photos, and iStockPhoto pay you a 20% royalty every time one is purchased. The purchase cost varies according to the size/resolution that someone chooses to buy.

For example, if someone chose to buy this photo...

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/object/4339976_...ljana.php?id=4339976

...at high resolution, which costs 10 credits (1 credit costs $1.30), the buyer would pay $13.00 - so the photographer gets 20% of that ($2.60).

The trick is to think laterally about what descriptive keywords you use for each of your photos, because the keywords are used to help people find them. So your scenic photos of Slovenia could be tagged with location names, but also words like 'beautiful scenery', 'mountains', 'blue sky' etc.

I think I'll submit a few of my own photos, just to see what happens!

There's another similar (and popular) site here:

http://www.shutterstock.com/ (for payment info, see http://submit.shutterstock.com - they pay 25%)

I took this photograph with my new Nikon D-40 digital camera along the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. on 4/29/08. Every year, tourists travel from as far away as Japan to come and see these beautiful trees as they celebrate ˜ Hanami' (the Japanese term for the act of viewing these fleeting flowers). The Japanese believe that the peak of the cherry blossoms each spring is a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. Incidentally, this particular specimen or ˜Yoshino Cherry' (Prunus yedoensis) was already at 4-5 years old when it was planted as seedling and a gift from Japan in 1912. That makes the tree at least 100 years' old!

My second offering is a snapshot of our elite mobile Rapid Tactical (RAT) patrol strike team (code named 'Echo' and 'Thunder'). But don't let appearances deceive you. These tomcat commandoes are extremely skilled, highly motivated, silent but deadly, and love their work! They are truly ˜brothers in arms' since they are also siblings (and just celebrated their 3rd birthday). If you're interested, these guns are for hire, subject however to the terms and conditions of their owner and agent, ME!

Happy Spring! Wink

@ Celeon

Yes the G-36 looks better and better. Thumbs Up

@ VG

Thanks for the links I'll give it a try but first I need to look for pictures that might be interesting for general public.
Anyway, I like the idea but I need to look up the terms since I'm not willing to divulge my account number over the Internet. Wink2

My parents have just returned from a holiday, one stop of which was Venice, Italy. They brought me back some of the funkiest pasta I have ever seen, or eaten!

Mhmmmm... rainbow pasta. Funky indeed, I'd eat it. I love all kinds of pasta.

Speaking of rainbows, I've been playing some Rainbow Six - Vegas 2 during the weekend.
I miss the big firefights of the first R6 Vegas, but Vegas 2 is very entertaining as well.

Here's my team getting ready to smoke some tangos on the other side of the truck. Cool
