if you have the software for the motherboard..for overclocking try a 5% overclock..it'll probably get you cpu close to 3.4 up from 3.2..you can overclock your graphics from an nvidia program..

My current higher end Rig...If I were starting from scratch this year, I'd just go for an Nvidia 9800 series graphics card:

ASUS P5N32-E SLI (680i)
Dual core E6700 Cpu (Mobo upgradeable to Quad-Core)
2GB OCZ PC2 8800 (1100Mhz) RAM (Mobo upgradeable to 4Gb)
BFG 8800GTX 768Mb Graphics card (upgradable to two cards in SLI config)
Audigy2 ZS (Better Sound cards/setups are available)
4 Seagate 400GB hard drives in a 0+1 RAID array
Plextor PX-800A DVD drive
OCZ PSU 850W (SLI-ready)
Antec P180 Case (three 120mm fans)
Zalman Zalman Cnps9700led Ultra Quiet Cpu Cooler
Samsung 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor 1920X1200 native
Windows VISTA 32bit

@pookapotamus;

Not at all!! .......This is a Hardware thread, and if you're confused about some aspect of performance tuning, ...then I am sure that there are others who would also be pleased to hear the answer to your question.

Questions like your's belong in this thread!

My current rig:

Asus A8V - XE Motherboard - Wouldn't have another, not enough fan plugs for my liking, I've had to resort to splitter adaptors

AMD 64 4400 dual core 939skt - Arctic 64 cooler went straight on it, I never use the stock coolers

2gb Crucial PC3200 RAM in 2x1 sticks - Copper jacket cooled - Motherboard is restricted to a max RAM speed of PC3200

XFX 7900GT 256mb Graphics Card - Awaiting delivery of my POV 8800GTS 640mb back from POV which was borked on delivery

Creative X-FI Gamer Sound Card - New version - Had the previous X-Fi Music but a power surge blew it just before Xmas

Seagate 320gb Sata Hard Drive - Installed last week as those who suffered reading that thread already know

Western Digital 120GB IDE Hard Drive as slave drive

Jeantech 450w PSU - Awaiting replacement of my Hiper 530watt that didn't survive same power surge that killed the X-Fi

Samsung 2232BW 22" widescreen monitor

Saitek Eclipse II keyboard - I mention this as the keys are backlit in a choice of 3 different colours - very handy for playing SH at night!

Thermaltake Soprano case - Which I replaced all stock fans with Arctic Cooling ones but is still a little too noisy

Windows XP

So that's my set up. But how does it run SH4? Nicely I think. I've had no CTD's, no freezes and no sound problems. It doesn't stutter or lag. Granted the 7900GT Graphics Card is I guess 15 months out of date, and some of the finer lines of the subs against a sunset are a little jaggy but the 8800GTX will solve that. I've not done a FPS count. Most 'current' games - Call of Duty 4, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Medal Of Honour Airbourne Assault, Half Life 2, all play well. The only game my rig just cannot get on with is Bioshock. It hates it and as a result I have uninstalled the game which is a shame as I got about 1/4 of the way through it. Now the Sony DVD drive won't even read the disc which isn't damaged in anyway - I think a 'Starforce' type problem is the issue here.

My parting comment, always use an anti-static wrist strap when delving inside your PC. I blew 2gb of Crucial ram when I didn't bother Hammer

As some of you may know, to make sure every upgrade I do goes smoothly, I always wear the correct apparel to ensure whatever I'm doing is 'Jambo Proof' Veryhappy

no...in that case leave the graphics card alone ..but i would read the mobo manual to get a better understanding of the overclocking program...after you read it ..give it a try ..

@ Bunkerratt no progress at all i loaded easy tune but it does not give me the option to over clock. Angry Blue Guy i was kinda thinking that maybe it won't let me overclock because the mobo can't handle any more?

any ideas?

and the only manual i have is a paper copy that came with the mobo, was going to check out gigabyts web site at lunch.

Best overclocking guide i ever found.

http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardware/103676-c2d-overc...guide-beginners.html

It follows intel but the theory should be the same shouldn't it?

Make sure you have a big cooler before you start.

to be honest...i couldn't actually answer that as i don't use vista...but at this point i'd call gigabyte and ask for some help...you could look at the support site i did and noticed some type of new file for easytune5 but i'm not shure what it's for and what bios version you have ..best to call ...
