A few things from me...

First up - Is the floor under your desk, where your feet are, a mass of tangled cables and plugs? Is your desk cluttered with USB hubs and external drives? Mine too.

I came across this simple and quite brilliant idea (I think) - What you see in this photo is the underside of a desk top. I'm considering having a go at it:

The guy who did it has a website - here and he addresses various questions and provides a step by step guide on how to do it with parts easily available from your local hardware store Smile

Secondly, to save me a fruitless search - can someone tell me if such a thing exists that converts a standard 4 pin power connector from a PSU into a SATA power connector? I'm currently looking through Maplin and I'm not having any joy Nuh uh

EDIT: I've found them so they clearly exist, just have to find a UK retailer now - This is what I meant! Smile

And lastly, who would have thought that a couple of Hard Drives would survive the terrible Columbia Space Shuttle disaster? Read more Here

Doesn't heat rise, and what with wood being such a good insulator, on a hot day that might cause a few problems.

Or am i just being ott?

MMM. Heat rising - crossed my mind too, but the guy claims it doesn't make any difference and he's not bothered by it. Confused

Not strictly hardware, but I see the best alternative browser to IE has a version 3 beta out to download - Firefox.

I have used Firefox for a few years now and personally would never go back to IE.

The download is Here

Has anyone used it yet? I'm downloading it now.

I use both, not really noticed a difference between them at the moment.
Firefox used to go slow on occasion but not recently.
I don't really know why i don't just stick with one, firefox seems to have a bigger more dated task bar along the top.
The latest I.E seems a little more streamlined in the looks department, is that something they've worked on?

I have both IE 7 and Firefox 3 RC1. I use Firefox and the missus uses IE. That way we both can have our own homepage and bookmarks etc.

Firefox 3 RC1

P4369.

From a E6850, 8800GTS 320 with 4 gig pc6400 ram.

Really demanding graghics, on the graghics tests didn't get past 16fps.

I'm downloading the one off trial version now. My 8800GTS 640mb will be OK, but the 939skt 4400x2 will bottleneck it I expect.

I really must get around to embracing Intel! Veryhappy

Do you think Acer's designers had been playing HL-2?

I still wouldn't buy one though Wink

"The Predator will come in four flavours -- we've only got Euro prices, so expect these to ratchet up with VAT and rip-off-Britain tax. The entry-level Predator Sniper will cost €1,699 (£1,350), Smile the Predator Trooper will cost €1,999 (£1,590), Roll Eyes while the Predator Crusher will set you back €2,999 (£2,390). Surprised The top-spec €3,999 (£3,180) Sad Eyes Eliminator model will use an Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core CPU and twin Nvidia GeForce 9800GX2s, with four separate graphics-processing units split across two cards." linky1 linky2

Ouch!!! Thats some serious outlay!

So its not true that Acer are market testing these by giving freebies to forum moderators . . . . . . Winky???!!!

Mozilla has now delivered the second and last release candidate of its upcoming browser, Firefox 3. Most of the bugs found in RC1 gone, RC2 can be downloaded from here. Firefox 3 users can just update their browser to make use of the latest update.

Nvidia has released their Physx Software. At the moment it is only for GTX280, GTX260, 9800G2 and 9800GTX cards.

But if find a modded inf file you can get it working on 8800GTS G92 and 8800GT G92 cards as I have. Now Physx games look way better and I had a massive score jump in 3Dmark Vantage.

Before Physx
- P6201

With Physx
- P8078
