They'd have to change rather a lot of the stock Solomons for it to be realistic (notably, dumping the nonexistent (in RL) "Honaria").

What do you mean exactly? How much is it that different? Is it more detailed or with a better overall as IRL depiction?

LOL, where to start.

My comment was related to the base Solomons traffic which is abysmal (and set to load for single missions). In addition, the Port of Honaria doesn't even exist NOW to the extent is shows in SH4, and was completely nonexistent in WW2.

I doubt this special mission is any better. Virtually any player built mission will be more historical.

For what it's worth, the capital of the Solomon Islands is Honiara. Note the spelling difference. It's on Guadalcanal Island and a good place to start seeing Henderson Field, Ironbottom Sound and Bloody Ridge. I was lucky enough to have to go there on business in October of 1992, when the Marine veterans came back for a 50th reunion. Ballard was also there with Sir Edmund Hillary locating all of the battleships, cruisers, etc on the bottom of the Sound and held court in the scuba shed each night. Great visit. Four fascinating days.

I hit the Post button before I finished my comment. I have to agree with Tater that that the harbor facilities are way too big. Even today, there are only a few small docks. As I recall. most of the supplies for Guadalcanal had to come in over the beach using lighters.

How is ballard doing on that anyways? Last I heard he was looking for ships sunk in the deep waters at midway. He found a few planes and I thought a carrier, last I heard.

It is a compressed file. Unzip it with Winzip, 7zip, any decompression program you have. The unzipped file is an excutable file. Double click on it and it will install itself.

I tried to download it but I am doing something wrong, maybe some of you can help:

I go to planetfile, join up,download using east coast USA queue, loads with no apparent problem to owners downloads. Tries to use abobe--no luck, so I brouse and select SH4. Restarted, and when I select to run it using SH4 the games it's self loads but no change. TE isn't on there.Looked in both war patrols and quick missions
When I downloaded it it asked if I wanted to
open or save file, I selected "save" as I did with the patches I downloaded. All are there on my download file yet TE and even the patches haven't "took". Should I have chosen "open" instead of "save" by chance? On the patches it asks you to select "run" or "save" I choose "save".

I'll select TE in my download file and hit "open with SH4 yet TE fails to appear, just the regular game.

Had option to "send to" SH4 DVD wich was already loaded yet when I did that the dvd ejected and I was told to insert a writable dvd. Makes no sense to me. Did I do anything wrong? All of you make it seem so simple. Thanks for your help.

Plaese read my previos post. The one just above yours.
It is a compressed file. You need to extract it with winrar ar 7zip before you can run the .exe file.

Thanks for the link, dgrayson. For some reason it still won't work. I'll educate myself a bit more about different types files and how to work with them.

It is good to know the speed calculator doesn't work on this game. I tried and tried. I just either use my boat to match it or guess as to how the bow wave looks and what type ship.

The stopwatch way I read about would work as well, the same method really as locking your scope and waiting a few seconds.

Again, thanks for your help. American boats are new to me.

Best,
Bunflinger

Bunflinger,

Click on the Step by Step MOD Installation link in my signature. There is a section on unzipping files in there.

Thx For the alternate Site Yooper Clap
I hate rar files, The apps you need to download to use them are too demanding of my file applications and expect to run all my files I don't like that sort of evasive file apps;exe are so much easier to deal with!
