I am very pleased to announce that the recently announced patch v1.4 is not the end of Ubisoft's support of Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific. There will also be an add-on entitled: "Silent Hunter IV: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions". This add-on is scheduled to be released in Spring 2008 and will add a number of additional features to the game, including a German Campaign in the Indian Ocean, new resources and submarines to use, as well as Hero crewmembers! Below are some of the details:

German Campaign in the Indian Ocean: The new campaign spans from July 1943 until end of war, in May 1945. Players will operate from such far off Japanese naval bases as Penang, Singapore, Jakarta and Surabaya.

Strategic Warfare: As the player rises in rank and experience he gains access to new strategic resources such as recon aircraft that track down enemy shipping and even battle groups that can help wipe out superior enemy forces.

New Playable Submarines: Take to the seas in the long range Type IX-D2 U-boat and the revolutionary Walther propulsion type XVIII U-boat. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of these boats and how you can overcome even elite late war allied destroyers with high speed hit and run attacks.

Heroes: Based on actual historical figures, these new crewmembers add a number of special abilities that can change the fate of battle and save the ship when the time is right, as well as adding historical color to the game.

I wonder the same thing. Also, are the Hero crew just going to be German crew or will we get American Heros too? Wouldnt mind putting around the Pacific with Richard O'Kane as my XO.

While the addon is a good idea
A little accuracy would be good too

The XVIII was never operational and only 2 ever built - both being scrapped

Course next patrol the same TF will just spawn again. You spot Yamato and Musashi (and maybe a couple more of that class, lol). Call in a friendly TF some how. Sinks all 4 Yamatos (lol). Next patrol, run into some more Yamatos.

What would be really nice would be if this strat capability would read the ship names in the ship's roster cfg file and those ships would be it for the class. Any subsequent calls to spawn that class would return no ship. A generic call for the class would exclude the class (as if it was before the appearence date).

AK, are you able to clarify whether the 'Strategic Warfare' and 'Heroes' features will also be made available to the existing USN fleet boat campaign, or just the new U-boat campaign?

Taking into account the prominent inclusion of the Type XVIII U-boat (which never went into active service), does this mean the new U-boat campaign is based on an alternative history idea, similar to IL-2 1946?

I have quite a few other questions I'd like to ask about the add-on (as I'm sure other members have too) - but, rather than bombard you with them in this thread, would it be possible for you to facilitate another 'Dev Q&A', like we had when SH4 was in development?

Thanks for any further info you can provide.

So, err, we could play for the 'other side', in SH4? How odd!
Agree with uboat_ubizoo, the Type XVIII in the Pacific? Who thought that one up?

And just how many Type IXs went East? Not as many as the British S and T Class, based in Ceylon and at Fremantle (though I concede they never went into the open Pacific, just around the East Indies, by arrangement with the USN). But they could have been non-playable boats, just as we see other Uboats in SH3.

Just found this article about the add-on which also mentions: "improved navigation map, improved upgrade system".

EDIT - the same info is also on the SH4 website

An interesting quote from one of the Devs regarding this Add On:

"Plus, the strategic game features and the special abilities enhance the game in ways you can't imagine now."
