Thanks for the Pictures, Stew. It's a real experience touring these boats. So far I've toured 5 subs.
1. The USSN Nautilus in Groton, Connecticutt. 2. The USS Silversides in Muskegon, Michigan. 3. The USS Batfish in Muskogee, Oklahome. 4. The German captured sub in Chicago, Illinois. 5. The USS Croaker in Groton, Connecticutt.(This sub has now been moved to a museum in Buffalo, New York). This message has been edited. Last edited by: nomad66, |

Good pics, it is actually pretty amazing how much the stuff the current subs still have in common with the old diesel boats. I was an ET on a 688I class boat for 4 years and was pretty amazed to see a bunch of the same equipment still used today in those pics.
"You know, I think that's the same upholstery they use on school buses" We call it nagahide and it is still on subs today "Looks a bit crowded, doesn't it?" Actually I think it looks like you have more room to move around in those racks than you do a 688 class subs, though it appears they defiantly have less personal storage space. |
