Here are some pictures I took when I visited the USS Cod a few days ago in Cleveland, OH.

They have visitor info on their website http://www.usscod.org. Also some really nice historical info and photos of the torpedo computer internals on that site.

First the exterior sub pics:

Looks like they sealed the outer torpedo tube doors

Filled circles=ships sunk, hollow circles=damaged, the bottom 2 striped flags represent ships from Thailand that were sunk

Those little dark spots all over the torpedo are bugs, mayflies I think.

View from the stern

View from the bow

You can see the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Brown's stadium from the deck

To get inside the boat you have to use the original hatches and ladders

Some of these are a bit dark because the lighting inside is dim

Bow torpedo tube

Insides of a Mk14 torpedo

I think this is the hatch the load the torpedoes onto the boat through

Torpedo door close ups

Moving aft next is the officer's quarters

Officer's wardroom

Captain's bunk

Officer bunks

Great pics.

You beat me to it. I was going to go over on the Memorial Day weekend, but other things got in the way.

Interesting that she doesn't have the fully modernized conning tower, just the cut up original style.

I've always wondered how this affected underwater speed. Surely it had to be much less hydrodynamic than the standard CT. And one would think a lot more "noisy" as well.

Thanks for sharing! You'd make Paul Farace proud. The Cod is one of the best preserved fleet museum boats in the USA!

Check out SUBMARINEMUSEUMS.ORG I think you'd like it. Smile

The attack center of the boat: the conning tower

If these pictures are at an odd angle it is because you are only allowed to climb halfway up the ladder and look into the tower. I think you could imagine what hundreds of tourists with a fondness for turning knobs and pushing buttons could do to the delicate equipment here like the periscopes or TDC if they were allowed in there.

Sonar and hydrophones to the left (I think), TDC on the right (looking aft in this shot)

The big red buttons at the top of this shot are the torpedo firing buttons

Ladder and hatch to the bridge

Looking up the ladder into the tower

Search periscope

Attack periscope

Another failed attempt at getting a good photo of the TDC

Sonar/hydrophones station?

Attack periscope (notice the red interior lighting in the tower)

I believe the attack plotting table is also up here, but I couldn't see it from the ladder

Next is the aft batteries, mess hall, and enlisted men's bunks

Looks a bit crowded, doesn't it?

You know, I think that's the same upholstery they use on school buses

Forward and aft engine rooms

The handle on the left here is the main induction valve

Water desalinators

The Maneuvering room

Lathe

Emergency food in case the compartment is sealed off

And finally the aft torpedo room

The battle flag

Well, I'm done bombarding you with pictures now. It's a great looking boat that you really have to see in person to fully appreciate.

Most excellent! Cool Little known fact. US submarines had a frig for cold storage of foods and germans boats didn't.

Bardzo dobze, molto benne, nagyon jo, viel gut, excellent pics, and a coincidence because my wife brought home a copy of Das Boot the other day. That encoding device must have been similar to the enigma the Germans had. Interesting stuff.
I have only began to study these pictures, thanks for posting.

Remember folks, there are currently 25 submarine museum boats across the USA. Soon there will be 26 with the addition of USS Dolphin (AGSS-555) in San Diego, CA.

There are 21 (soon to be 22) US submarine museum boats, 3 Russian submarine museum boats, and 1 German U-Boat museum boat. That's just in the USA! If you live near one, go check one out. They need support these days.

That's 6 Gatos, 8 Balaos, 2 Tenches, and 6 of newer various classes.

These are the submarines in your neighborhood! Visit and support them.
