Strange how different we feel music. I listened to the piano version and now to the orchestral take you posted above and I just don't like it.

I think the Caprica theme keeps a steady but unsolved suspense level and the minor key makes it dull and gloomy. It's not even melancholic, it's unpleasing for me.
It may match the scenery and the plot of the series - I don't know - but I can't imagine a situation I'd enjoy listening to that music.
Maybe short before jumping off a bridge? Big Grin

No offense intended, mate!

All the shows we watched as kids growing up....
getting old. It's amazing how TV has changed in our lives.
Land of the giants...wasn't that the show that had the funny monsters...trying to remember what they called them.

We had three channels, four if you used tinfoil on your antenna.

Kids were remotes back then, bet I changed the channel a 100 times a night for my dad.

Cartoons only on Saturday.

You never heard any cussing on TV until late night, then it was minor.

You never had to worry about flipping through the channels and have your kids say "what was that man doing to that woman."

Ja , it is melancholical because it fits perfectly to the tone of the series. Thumbs Up

The series is about death and a mysterious and unexplainable unnatural continuation of existence after it. About the accidental discovery of the key to immortality and the questioning of all natural religious beliefs that comes along with it. Smile

Tell you the truth, it's been so long since I've watched it, I don't remember too much about it. The general concept was that there were a group of space travelers from Earth and upon arriving back on the planet, they soon realize that it's not really Earth but a similar planet where everyone/everything is much larger, giant size that is. Hah, yeah I remember the tinfoil and old "rabbit ears" antennas. Everything was in black and white until NBC broadcast the first "In LIving Color" show, though I don't remember what that show was. There was also a British TV series I used to watch (and love) but I can't remember the name of it. It centered around 4 special agents (from MI5 or something) and who all had special ESP or Psycho-kinetic powers. Darn, wish I could remember the name of it. Then of, course, as I child I watched cartoons like Beany & Cecil, Astro Boy (anime), The Sonny Fox Show, Popeye, etc. Anyone remember "Thunderbirds To The Rescue, Kimba The White Lion" or "Lancelot Link (Secret Chimp)"? Veryhappy

OMG! Veryhappy Tobor The Eighth Man was my favorite! I totally forgot about that one. I can almost remember the cartoon's theme song: "Call Tobor, the Eighth Man. Tobor, the Eighth Man. Faster than a rocket, quicker than a jet, he's the one to call on, he's the one to get". Hah, thanks for reminding me. Clap The Patty Duke Show was great ("They laugh alike, walk alike, at times they even talk alike. They're two of a kind. Cause they're cousins, identical cousins..."). Yup, every one of those shows you mentioned were on my hit list back then. Who can forget Ultraman (hmmm, me), battling all those Godzilla like monsters and flying around with that rocket pack on his back. Hey Rocky, you really pulled a rabbit outta your hat with that showlist.

That's it! You got it! "Sleestak". They were the buglike monsters with the big eyes and clawed hands. I had a crush on the girl in that series. Hey, how about those high tech, dinosaur special effects. Claymation I think it was called at the time. Ohhhh Noooo, it's Mr. Bill! Too Happy

I went to watch the new Star Trek last night. It was awesome big time. I'm not a fan of this movie but this latest one really rocks.

Has anyone watched it? What do you think of it?

Im propably the only one who doesnt think its that great. Sad Eyes

Not because of the new actors and new concept, they are all very good but because of this time-travel/alternative universe what-we-saw-in-classic-star-trek-never-happened-because-the-past-was-changed storyline.

Ok, so they had to do something to clean the blackboard and start again from day one. But what happens with the canon now ?

Did the movies and the classic series never happen ? Will they relive their old adventures in a slightly changed version now or what ?

Somehow i dont like that whole idea all too much. Angry Blue Guy

Well .. to tell the truth I don't follow Star Trek that much so this is probably an advantage for me without knowing what was happening in the very beginning of it.

If I see it from the perspective of a new fresh movie and somehow interrelates with the past .. those were making a lot of sense.

WARNING : the section below may contain spoiler ... [ START OF SPOILER ]

.
.
.
.

For me .. it's all about how Spock is too brilliant (in the future) and somehow he can create the substance to make a blackhole. For me it's cool to see how the past and the future come together. I think this is the idea of it. Something very untold in the classic and now the time to make a new story to connect the beginning of it (I'm not sure though whether this story was told in the classic series). The young/past Spock has learnt from the future one so my assumption his way of life changed after since and he became a better person. I know and agree with you about the time travel things .. it's kinda confusing and it sometimes traps our mind into an infinite loop (of stories) Googly So that's why I don't try to think about the other stories in between (stories from the classic Star Trek to the modern ones .. well .. I hardly watched them anyway Big Grin ).

.
.
.
.

[ END OF SPOILER ]

The next Star Trek might change the idea again .. well .. depending on the director Smile

I liked the original Star Trek simply because it was stereotypical '60s stuff!

...Our heroes, "Boldly kicking butt where no butt had been kicked before!!"

(....Socko really liked the original too!!)

I loved/love the classic Star Trek series.

When Celeon was still a little Kaleun and behind the iron courtain, he was watching Star Trek every wednesday night in the tv channels we were actually not supposed to watch Big Grin

But you just couldn't stop tv signals from coming from the other side of that wall and from satellites so simply everyone in east-Berlin was recieving the full spectrum of west german tv. Wink2

After school, Celeon was wearing his socialistic pioneer uniform at pioneer meetings... "For peace and socialism, be ready ! Answer : Always ready!" Big Grin ... but before going to bed he was secretly watching the adventures of Captain Kirk and Spock Thumbs Up

Oh those memories Happy

"He's dead Jim"

What i like about the new movie are the actors which really fit the Star Trek characters very well and even really look like them too !

Especially Zachary Quinto could easily be a son of Leonard Nimoy Eek
