Hmmm .. am curious with this Silent Service. I can hardly find this one on DVD though. I've seen a lot of classic series in stores but definitely not this one. I may have to specially order it. Nice review too in IMDB.

I want to also find that Victory at Sea ... should be really good one.

Thanks for sharing this with us Dolittle81 Smile

The "Silent Service" TV series has never been put out on officially on DVD (or VHS Tape). However, some episodes are available...the video quality is atrocious, but they are still fun to watch.

Some time ago I uploaded a few episodes to my Filefront. The three below are still available for downloading/streaming.

Sea Lion

Davids and Goliath

The Archer

The "Victory at Sea" series is readily available at many retail outlets, TV orders, On-Line retailers, etc... The packages are very inexpensive for the 26 episodes (13 hours) of entertainment.

@wh1skea - I will keep on eye if I can find something with the War in the Pacific and will let you know. Wink

@Dolittle81 - Thanks for providing the links to these quality movies/tv series. Very much appreciate it. I'm starting to download them Smile

I'm wondering when the Hollywood will start remaking the old war movies. There are so many great ones and especially now aday they can make this kind of movie with the high tech effects and full with cool actions. Big Grin

@pacific_breeze - I was wrong on the title....its not "War in the Pacific," its "Crusade in the Pacific". Its on old black and white 50's series much like "Victory At Sea."

While there is a topic about doctor (like ER), I also like the real life tv program about how doctors perform some operations. For me it's really cool to watch the medical technology. I've learnt a lot of stuff from that program. Thumbs Up

Films in no particular order (too tough to choose):

An American Werewolf in London

Airplane (seen it hundreds of times and it still make me laugh)

Stars Wars trilogy (the originals - Phantom Menace etc were terrible)

Romeo is Bleeding (a great film about a corrupt cop and the mafia with Gary Oldman)

Being John Malkovic (surreal)

The Dark Knight

The Descent (great British horror)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original, although the remake is good too)

Das Boot (goes without saying - saw this at the cinema on a hot day when the air conditioning had failed - the heat was uncomfortable but it made you feel as though you were there in the boat with them)

TV series (again in no particular order)

Spaced

Father Ted

Blackadder 2

Twin Peaks

Monkey Dust (very dark animation series)

Hi PMH273

The Descent - is that the one with the group of girls who get down into the secret cave and got trapped ? I can't remember whether this one was the British horror .. Confused

What is the Monkey Dust about ? is it a Japanese animation ?

It looked like you had the perfect environment at that time when you were watching Das Boot Veryhappy I'm still looking for this movie. Frown

Btw, talking about sub movie, I watched the classic Silent Service TV Series, downloaded from Dolittle81's File Front ... they were pretty good considering the TV series and the year they were made Cool Thumbs Up Can't find this Silent Service in DVD though.

Hi Pacific_breeze,

Yep, that's the one - even the caving scenes made me feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable. It's a cracking film!!! They're making another one I think, but with a different director.

Monkey Dust is a British animation series - it's a very dark and twisted comedy - probably not for everyone (certainly not children), but it appeals to my sense of humour - I love it.
There's loads of clips of it on youtube - highly recommended if you like something a bit off the wall Twisted

It was definitely an experience watching Das Boot like that - next time I watch it'll be from the comfort of my own sofa. Good luck looking for a copy - its well worth the search!! Smile

Some of you who live in Europe may have watched the new 007 movie Quantum of Solace. This will start in US on 14 November and in Australia on 19 November. Not too sure about the screening dates in other Continents. Just out of curiosity, what is your verdict from out of 10 ? Smile
