I believe most of us are entertainment lovers on various kinds. This also includes myself who constantly need the source of entertainment to get out of my daily routines.

I create this thread for us community who would like to express individual's "All Time Favourites" or at least what each one of us think about:

- Top 10 Movies and/or Group of Movies (from the same production i.e. trilogies, Bond's series etc.) and

- Top 5 TV Series and/or Documentary programs

as the date you post your opinions.

Share with us. Others may not have heard about the good ones that you will mention OR we have heard but never watched them. It's also good to know that some of us may have the same opinions in those Top Charts so you can share and talk about how you like them.

As there are countless new movies, tv series, and documentaries, your miles may vary so you'll probably be coming back and re-posting your new Top Chart list.

List them in descending order i.e. for Top 10 Movies – list them from number 10 (the least favourite) to number 1 ( the most favourite in this chart). It's perfectly ok if there are less than 10 in this instance i.e. only have 6 favourite movies.

I will start this with myself:

I am more into the Science Fiction, Action and Animation type of movies. Most of things that I watch are in these genre but I do like other ones like Fantasy and War.

My Top 10 Movies:
10 – Underworld 1 & 2 (eerrhhhmmm .. who was that actress played in Pearl Harbor? errr .. she totally looked so different here Blush )

9 – Pearl Harbor (just stunning picture and love the story)

8 – Lord Of The Ring Trilogy (it's so well made with stunning effects!!)

7 – Gladiator

6 – Contact (something that I always dream of to see life in another world? Simply the best)

5 – U-571 (I wouldn't be playing Silent Hunter 4 if I don't like this one Winky )

4 – Stealth (I found this one has smallish stories in it .. really cool planes and I definitely want one of them Big Grin )

3 - Final Fantasy (The Spirit Within) and also Final Fantasy VII (Advent Children) (both animations are so well made and this is something I really appreciate when the animators putting their efforts in creating the movable art)

2 – Wing Commander (I always imagine this is a typical Submarine movie but in the space Wink2 )

1 – Star Wars (the whole saga + the merchandise Smile .. I grew up with this movie in my life so "no question asked ... " Cool )

My Top 5 TV Series and/or Documentaries:
5 – Clone Wars (action packed and so cool in many aspects. This may go up in my chart as the episodes progressing)

4 – Planet Earth (Documentary – this is how I appreciate how good our home planet is .. Wink )

3 – Alias (well made stories and action packed that basically enough to nail me on the couch for hours)

2 – Heroes (it's so good and enough to make me forget that I have a full bowl of popcorn that sits on the table in front of me)

1 – Skyland (it's a kid TV series and for me it's the best I've ever seen. The story is very well made and action packed in the whole series. My daughter also loves this ... as much as her dad loves it Cool I just can't wait until the trilogy comes out)

Interesting thread PB Thumbs Up

I'm amazed you have missed out "Das Boot" which many if not all of us here will consider it the "DADDY" of all sub films bow If you have not seen it then I highly recommend you to watch it - you may realise it is far superiror to U-571, but then it's all down to personal preference!! Wink

Anyway here is my list, but I will not list them in any order as I like them for lots of different reasons plus it's too hard to say which one I like the most!

Top 10 Films

1 Star Wars Trilogy - The original films, I was brought up on these and they defined my childhood!

2 The Jason Bourne Trilogy - Excellent in every way - and the music score is fantastic!

3 Downfall - Probably my all-time favourite war film, Bruno Gantz was first class as Hitler!

4 Where Eagles Dare - Another one from my childhood, Eastwood and Burton at their finest!

5 Das Boot - The "Daddy" of all sub films, I prefer the original mini series version - how it was meant to be seen!

6 James Bond - Another series of films from my childhood, can you imagine Christmas TV viewing without a Bond film?

7 Apollo 13 - Awesome film in every way - and filmed in Zero G too!!

8 Saving Private Ryan - Just for the first 45 minutes alone!

9 We Dive at Dawn - And any other war film featuring Sir John Mills for that matter!

10 Platoon - Just an awesome piece of cinematic work, probably the first of the anti-war films made!

Top 5 TV Series - Not listed in any order!

1 Band of Brothers - Far better than Saving Private Ryan - and most of the cast were British Wink

2 Star Trek - Any of the series, but Next Generation stands out!

3 Law & Order - Preferred the earlier seasons but still a great programme to watch!

4 NCIS - I really love this series, and a great selection of characters, plus Ziva is so sexy In Love

5 Top Gear - Informative and very entertaining especially with their stunts and challenges - worth the TV licence fee alone!

3. Hogan's Heroes

Nice idea PB!!

Here goes:

Movies: (in no particular order, too hard to choose!!)

1: Lord of The Rings trilogy - awesome, I read the books, starting with the Hobbit, through in series at least once a year, have done since i was 12 and was amazed how good the films were in realising the vision.

2: Tank Girl - based on the comic books with Lorri Petty as Tank Girl & 90's 'gansta' rapper Ice-T as a mutant kangaroo soldier! what more do you need I ask??!!

3: X-Men films - cheesy but cool!

4: Das Boot - stunning.

5: The Battle of Britain - love it, the ariel cinematography, especially as its shot with real planes in the majority is awesome.

6: Sahara - I'm a big Clive Cussler fan & this was a pretty good conversion in most ways, I hope there's more coming!

7: Serenity - see TV series below, Firefly was genius.

8: Singing in the Rain - love it, proper Sunday afternoon film.

9: Drop Dead Fred - Rik Mayall kids comedy about a young girl's imaginary friend who comes back to her when she's older, still gets me chuckling now!

10: Gladiator - even the missus likes it!

TV series:

1: A Town Called Eureka - brilliant series, great cast, clever plots & some brilliant one liners.

2: Firefly - probably the most under-rated sci-fi series ever, 16 episode series which knocks spots off Bab5, Star Trek, etc but no second series ever made, a great shame. A recent film, Serenity, further developed the plot.

3: Space: Above & Beyond - Again an amazing sci-fi, series set around a team of Marines, which never made it to a second series, despite a superb cliff hanger of a last episode. Think all of your favouriter war movie plots & some very well developed 'social conscience' type plots, in space, with a great cast (including Ivanova from pre-babylon5 times, David Duchovny guest starring as an android pool hustler, Dale Dye, etc). Best episode - the air combat duel with 'Chiggy Von-Richtofen' the alien enemies top ace!! I can only find it on region 1 (ie: US) DVD format at the mo Frown

4: Heroes - continuosly stunning series Smile

5: Blue Planet - David Attenborough series which is truly fascinating.

Loved that one ! Still have all episodes on old VHS Tapes somewhere but no VHS player anymore Veryhappy

Colonel Mcqueen vs Chiggy von Richthofen Cool

The music is Beethoven's funeral march by the way Thumbs Up

My fav episode was the one with the dead native american "Jimmy Dark Moon" who was executed for murder.

They reenacted that covert operation of ww2 when the body of a man who died of pneumonia was put into a military uniform and faked military build up plans which outlined the D-Day invasion to take place at Pas des Calais instead of Normady were put into a briefcase handcuffed to his right arm.

They brought the body into the english channel by submarine so that he would be washed ashore and found by the germans who then were supposed to believe his plane was shot down over the channel and the top secret plans were authentic.

They did the same to fool the aliens and lure their fleet into a trap Cool

The Battlestar Galactica episode "Scar" with the Cylon fighter Ace is a homage to this Space A&B episode. Wink2

Thanks Goose_Green, to tell you the truth .. I haven't seen the DVD of "Das Boot" here well at least in the city where I live in but I will certainly try to find it. At least if I can find it at the video rental.

This is the purpose of the thread so if someone thinks it's a cool movie then it must be worth watching .. so why not .. Smile

Humm I don't think I have 10 and 5 "FAVORITES" but here is what I like, most to least

1) Das Boot
2) 12 Chairs- old Russian one, funnier than the book.
3) Star Wars 1,3-6
4) Star Wars episode 2
5) Saving Private Ryan
6) Pirates of the Caribbean-1
7) Alien vs Predator
8) Starship troopers

And I really can't think of anything else.

As for TV series...

1) Stargate SG-1, my all-time favorite. Got no time to watch it now Sad
And that's it Big Grin

Im kicking myself for not mentioning Battle Of Britain. By far the best aerial combat movie made period!! The film is very accurate to the actual events and the aircraft are amazing as well as the aerial combat flight scenes. Not to mention the casting which was first class Thumbs Up

This film is a MUST have in your DVD collection.

BTW At the time of filming the collection of aircraft brought together was the 35th largest air force in the world!!

Makes you wonder what happened to them all, I know there's still some HE-111's flying but I'd love to see a Junkers 88.

not too OT I hope but a similar fact: if you take into account all the vessels it owns - canoes, riverboats, rideboats, etc, the Disney World coporation has the fourth biggest navy in the world!!!

Now thats just given me an idea . . . . . Winky

Another good thread...here's mine

Movies

10..Gladiator
9...The Matrix (1st Film)
8...Hunt for Red October
7...Indiana Jones...(The whole lot)
6...Close Encounters of the Third Kind
5...Armageddon
4...Harry Potter (the first film)
3...Battle of Britain
2...The Great Escape
1...The original Star Wars Trilogy...(you can keep the new ones.)

Tv Series

5...Law and Order, Criminal Intent, Special Victims Unit.
4...Band of Brothers.
3...Life on Mars
2...Waking the Dead
1...CSI Miami

The thing that always 'makes it' for me in the films is the music. I don't care how 'cheesy' the film is so long as it has a good 'musical score'.

My hates for films are Horror and 'stupid' comedies.

I actually am concerned as to what the next 'block buster films' genre is going to be and who will make and star in it.

Haven't actually seen a film this year that has the 'musn't miss that' feel about it. Don't get me wrong I have seen a few but they are all extensions of previous releases....lets get it right it takes some serious thinking to follow the likes of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Matrix and even the Lord of the Rings.

Great thread Thumbs Up

It's so hard to choose, so these are the first that come to mind and not in any order of preference:

Movies:
  • Ronin
  • Bourne Trilogy
  • The Italian Job (original)
  • Das Boot
  • Where Eagles Dare
  • Memphis Belle (the only decent modern film about Allied bomber crews in WW2; this will perhaps change when the new Dam Busters film is made)
  • The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
  • Battle of Britain
  • The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
  • Excalibur

    TV Series:
  • Band of Brothers (looking forward to the Pacific follow-up too)
  • Secret Army (a 1970s TV series about Belgian resistance helping shot-down Allied airmen escape to Britain)
  • X-Files
  • Deadliest Catch
  • Q.I.

Secret Army! That brings back some memories! (clad in my pajama's, on best behaviour hoping my parents would forget what time it was in the evening! Veryhappy)

I don't have time to do my full list just now, but I can sum up my favourite film...
