I did some searching on this topic and found alot of info. The only prob is, it was rather old, around patch 1.2 . I am a new player, can anyone give me some updates on how careers are going?

Careers end at the end of the war no matter what correct? So starting later will likely lead to a shorter career run.

Are they correctly giving promotions and ship uprades?

Welcome to the forum.

Career length depends on you and how you decide to play the game. You can start in 1941 and if you remain successful, run to the end of the war. This would not be historically accurate though. Most Captains were promoted out of their boats after 4 to 6 war patrols. Also, if you play “dead is dead” as I do, you will have a very hard time making it through the entire war in one career.

Ship upgrades are working well now and if you are patched to 1.5 (The U-boat Add-on) you can be promoted.

Have a look at the available MODs for the game. They improve game performance, appearance and fix most of the remaining minor bugs.

I would recommend trying the Trigger Maru Overhaul With Training Wheels mod. dgrayson (Dave) took the original Trigger Maru Overhaul (which in my opinion is more for the advanced user) and put back some of the original easier aspects of the game. He first made this revised version of TMO for his grandson and decided to offer it to us on the forum. The TMO with training wheels still has the better graphic mod included in it plus fixes that were also included in TMO.
